Thread regarding Optum layoffs

This CEO conversation was different

Much more intense/ doom & gloom than his previous convos. He’s obviously feeling pressure from the board. Adding 6k jobs is really not that much given the size of the organization, acquisitions and attrition. Most requisitions are frozen. Only new business/ revenue generating will hire. Admittedly, I loved optum but lately have been kind of embarrassed if its greed.

Folks We need to Unite to stop the carnage that this and other companies are doing to IT people
let me know the interest in forming a Union for IT workers we have to start somewhere.
have you seen the requirements to earn 14 to 16 dollars an hour ? They want a Bachelors degree with multi disciplined certifications, If there is enough interest I will do the leg work to get a National Union Formed so this stuff will stop just start her and reply I am interested if I see enough we will get started the best place is at the beginning. I will monitor the site and see what the level of interest is. If your not part of the solution you cannot b–ch about it.

Well it can’t keep growing by leaps and bounds every year. The headcount is huge. Yes, many people are needed to support this healthcare company, but in tech, there is some redundancy. I’m sad and concerned about the layoffs and even more worried about the member experience. Many of us have worked year over year to improve NPS. Now that will be lost as members experience frustration working with overseas, uncaring and unconcerned healthcare providers. Tech typically gets worse when outsourced. Now the org will lose experienced talent. The CEO conversation shows a case of a lady who worked in prior auths attempting to get service for her daughter. Will an offshore team care about a situation like this as much as an onshore team? Doubtful.

Youre 100% correct on the corporate greed comment. Are they really making healthcare better for the consumer or simply paying leadership an absurdly bonus?
