Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Severance package

If company is going to use PDC process to get rid of people, can the left standings get severance packages? It’s essentially the same as layoffs.

When layoffs are being executed, always volunteer to go with the first round. The packages get worse with time, not better. As with any bubble, be the first to cash out if you can.

Even though Texas is a right to work state, Chevron will give you severance. Don’t believe anything HR tells you. Just say to them this “Who does my employment legal team contact”. They will crater and offer you the package. Be strong and courageous, Chevron does NOT want any legal issues.

You are not eligible for benefits outside your home payroll country. You will lose any Chevron in country benefits like housing plus your move home.

If your an expat and left standing file for severance in the expat country you reside. You will get a better severance package in Europe or other country. Chevron will try and get you to fly back to your host country so they can lay you off and severance you there. Remember, Texas is a right to hire and fire state and you lose all leverage the minute you get on the plane and mobilize home

I was actually “left standing” during a PDC but they still found a position for me. At that time there was a severance for all those who did not make it. If you are “forced” into a PDC, one of the questions to ask would be if they provide the severance.

How fitting the term ‘left standing’ is. Isn’t that the person who loses in the game of musical chairs? Only at Chevron, the PDC has already decided or been told who goes and who stays. The music is just for affect.

@ 1uuo, don’t play with words. If the result from ‘left standing’ is no job, it’s an involuntary severance— aka Layoff. You know it, everyone knows it.

It really depends on if PDC left standing is defined as laid off. CVX May cut cost from this perspective.

Chevron has always offered a standard severance plan for laid off employees. The formula is two weeks per year of eligible work service. It pays a minimum of 8 weeks and a maximum of 52 weeks of pay. All employees with 26 years or more of service are capped at 52 weeks or 1 year of pay. The severance plan also provides 6 months of company subsidized medical insurance, known as COBRA. You get to keep your current insurance plan and the company will subsidize the premium for 6 months to ensure your portion of the monthly premium remains the same. The last thing the company does as part of severance is guarantee you receive your State unemployment benefits without any contest. You will be able to apply for UI benefits without pushback from the company. I recommend you apply for your UI benefits at the first opportunity, after the WARN period has expired and you have completed your last paid day as a company employee.
