Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Firing associate left and right

So yesterday they started firing associates, cause of absences and tardy. So if you got 5 points and not having ppto or pto then be ready to get fired. They fired to much associates today and yesterday. And it’s holiday why they need to do that?

I’ve missed less than 10 days in the last 25 years. It’s funny how it’s always the same person who calls in or is late on a daily basis that seem to have the problem. I’m guessing all the ones complaining are under the age of 30. Go find another job and see how long you last.

And heaven help the people who get sick on or around one of Sam Club's "special" events. Get sick then and you can rack up 5 points in three days. No matter you've seen a doctor, who put you on antibiotics, because you have pneumonia, and your temperature is 101. Call off! How. Dare. You.

That happened to a coworker. Good man, been here ten years. Worked hard. New manager could have cared less. He fired the old man.

This is crazy my coworker show me her ppto and pto that she try to use it on her call in and late but the system did not accept it so she end up getting fired and she said she have a lot of ppto and pto why she still get fired?

If you 'point out', then you aren't scheduled anymore. Since managers have the ability to go in and override points for specific reasons, the ones being let go are either ones that don't have the justification or aren't favorites.

It’s entirely justified to fire people for going over their points. It’s a very lenient attendance policy that most abuse anyway.

I understand what everyone is saying. They let go of a bunch of people that were in violation, and they should've took the points seriously. But, for the company to do this right before the holiday rush is pretty wrong. If someone accumulate enough points to be fired then fire them right away. Don't wait and do a big purge. We are already short-handed and now they're just making it a million times worse.

They need to do that here for sure. People always late or just don't show up come back day later like nothing ever happened. They are not scared of being fired which makes it hard on everyone else. I don't like to see anyone lose their job but heck ur grown come to work

Its called being a responsible adult, show for work and you won't have any problems!! Simple!!
You can call out 4 times in 6 months, get 4 points, after 6 months they drop off. So for a year you can have 8 unapproved absences. And max out protected PTO you have 6 days you can miss. Giving you a grand total of 14 missed days. My opinion thats way to many, anyone needs more then that you shouldn't be working!! Most business you get 2 call ins a year, and they'll let you go.
Grow up and show up to work!!

Yes, lets crucify people for having emergencies, for being sick, or having a family.

One bout of pneumonia will wipe out half, if not all of the yearly PPTO allowance. And most of us don't get the 48 hours all at once. It has to build up. 48 hours is nothing, not compared to the way it use to be. And heaven help the part timers.

Sh– happens. Cars break down, kids get sick, adults get sick, pipes burst, basements flood, on and on.

I know, some people are slackers and have to be dealt with, but many aren't and they're getting fired right along with all the rest. They fired a lady here in NC for being too slow. She'd been a cashier for the company for 15 years and all of a sudden she's too slow. Took them fifteen years to figure that out.

Why are cashiers timed anyway? They take away the decent registers, the good conveyor systems and put in junk, and they make it as difficult as possible to get items from the counter into a cart. Then they cram four people, back to back, in a tiny space, add a couple carts or flatbeds and expect everyone to turn into Quicksilver.

Don't care about the members who demand to keep their carts. The members who leave their kids sitting in the baskets and we're supposed to find a way to fit the groceries in. (Take your FREA -k- -ing kids out of the carts!) Then there's the old men who drive their electric cart between the two registers, running over the runner foot and not even bothering to say he's sorry. Any id–t can see there's no room for a cart behind the registers. ......................it's the member that makes the registers go slow. Can't find their cards, have to write the checks out, etc.

And in this short amount of time you're allotted, you're suppose to get the member to buy a plus or get a credit card.

Here's a thought: Go back to the old conveyor belts and one cashier per register. You think shrink is from the four frea - k - ing register you have opened? No. It's coming from scan and go and self-checkout. Why? Because you time the door associates too! All they worry about is keeping their percentages down, not shrink. I know this because I talk to them.

The other thing is there is not enough people working to take care of the member. No one from merchandising has the time to help a member choose a computer or printer. They can't get their work done. Let alone click n pulls. Those are always messed up. Not the fault of merchandising. Their overwhelmed. It's home office's fault.

Whatever. I'm done ranting.

I work for this company, but I don't respect this company.

Thats awful that they are firing d—beats that will not come to work when scheduled. Shame on you Sams for wanting people to come to work when scheduled.

So they followed the attendance policy that everyone has taken a CBL on and is aware of? Scandalous.
