Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

New Open Time?

Herd the club will start opening at 9 instead of 7 sometime next year. Should help with morning stocking.

This would be a great decision. No one who isn’t a plus member is going to upgrade before 10 am. They will just pitch a fit and leave and then write a nasty Mx voice.

Most of our sales in those hours come from Club pickup anyways. Just open it at 7 and the doors for everyone at 9 am.

@1fgy You actually make less due to yearly inflationary costs

It would be nice if they paid us like Costco. Once again I make the same today as I did 11 years ago.

I would like to know this. Why do we need to worry about stocking when this will tick off most of our members. They wont be shopping so you wont need all those extra hours to stock.

Just another way to make plus members upset. We use early shopping hours to sell plus memberships.Oh well let the sh– hit the fan.

@mou - If we were trying to copy what Costco does, the Sam's discussion on this site would be almost nonexistent. Aside from cost of membership, earlier opening hours, and some of our prices being lower than theirs, there is absolutely zero advantage to Sam's over that of Costco - unless one has no Costco within a reasonable driving distance from their location. They do everything better than we do and they have for at least the last ten years and probably longer.

As for the later opening hours, 10 AM would be great but 9 AM is better than nothing. Having those two extra hours would certainly allow more things to get done, BUT if this company doesn't increase the numbers of people working on these shifts, they're still going to fall way short. The biggest disparity that they created and have yet to address properly, is all the lost man hours from eliminating the night crew. The idea that it would be smart move cutting the number of people in half and give them two fewer hours as a reasonable alternative, was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen this company do. And the way it has decimated receiving has been even worse. Anyone inside the clubs themselves, who looked at that and did the math, knew it was going to be a disaster. Costco has been bringing in their early morning shift for many years and it works for them simply due to the fact that they schedule an army of people every day to get it done. At 3 AM, there are more associates setting up at Costco than there are all day long at Sam's. They have more people in receiving alone than we do on the floor. Could you imagine how quickly you'd get run out of Bentonville forever if you ever suggested trying to do the same thing at this company?

They may go ahead with changing the opening time to 9 AM and it's going to anger some members but if we're being honest and taking into consideration the track record of those who make these decisions, we all know they'll manage to f— this one up, too.

It seems like this company loves to copy whatever Costco is doing almost every change in the last couple years has been from Costco

That's management for you. Make everyone angry, members and staff alike, instead of going back to the way it worked.

Home office, please leave your egos at the door and bring back the overnight shift so we can get the work done.

I am in the Test market can confirm that when we switched to 9:00 am it helped us out alot. We lost alot of plus members though and even though it been a couple of months people still try to come in at 7. Yesterday a member shoved his cart away in anger and almost hit the COS who was at the door. Members can still come in for Club Pickups

As a long term overnight associate who now works the AM shift, I think it would be great. PM does not drop all the holes, and there isn't enough time to have everything dropped that needs dropping. We have a forklift out on the floor 3/4 of the morning. That means 3 people wasting time. I do think our members are going to be upset about it, so get ready for that.

That would be amazing.

Something needs to happen. I don’t care what management says. There isn’t enough of us. Not enough anywhere. Impossible to get everything stocked and help members.
