Cisco on hiring freeze?

Does anyone know if cisco is on a hiring freeze? I applied for several jobs and i thought i will get an offer but it looks like the job was closed for some reason.

Were you able to receive a response during that period? I am in the same situation, was about to get the offer in december, freeze arrived and deep silence from then on..

The stock market is booming, best economy in years...

and yet Cisco is freezing hiring, cutting travel and expenses, and the stock is sinking like a brick rowboat.

Why is that?

Only HR and senior leadership know the answer to that question. The rest of us will find out when hiring managers start contacting recruiting firms to start filling positions or when firms start contacting candidates for positions they're trying to fill.

I know my account manager isn't going to call me to tell me the freeze has been lifted and they'd wonder why I wanted to know if I started asking questions about it.

Watch Cisco's job board listings for new postings and ignore the ones that say things like "Please note this posting is to advertise potential job opportunities. This exact role may not be open today, but could open in the near future. When you apply, a Cisco representative may contact you directly if a relevant position opens."

When does the hiring freeze end?

Yup. It's a hiring freeze. I've heard from several project managers and from my account manger (yes, I'm a contractor) that the BU I'm in is in a hiring freeze. I don't know how wide spread the freeze is, but I'm guessing it's probably across the board with exceptions being allowed if there's approval by someone high enough up the food chain.

I also heard today that the year-end shutdown got extended 4 additional days for contractors within multiple BU's. Affected contractors were told today that they won't be allowed to work 12/23 - 1/3 when they had been previously told for months that the year-end shutdown was 12/25 - 1/1.

Cisco is cutting costs due to the poor quarter performance last quarter and is trying to make this quarter's numbers look better by cutting operational expenses by cutting travel and reducing contractor billable hrs this quarter.

likely layoff time that's why. After it they will open up with preference to the internal lay-ed off candidates (at least that's what the messaging would be)
