Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

2020 Q1 reduction in force

I hear that DCG, IOTG and SSP all have considerable reductions coming. These will be spread out between Q1 and Q2, but the decisions are mostly made already and final tally by end of January at the latest. From what our VP told us in his all-hands meeting before the holidays, all orgs will have some kind of cut.

Blind requiring your work email is a huge red flag! There is zero reason to believe that any comments you make won't be sent directly back to your employer.

Intel's perpetual attempts to offshore true engineering work has perpetually led to product quality degradation. When will the board recognize this? It won't correct itself bc the current leadership has been told to reduce the burn rate. If I were in a low cost geo and you said you'd pay me if I could make pigs fly, you bet I'd take your money. No problem. Done in 3 months.

I wouldn’t trust Blind with my personal data, they had a few breaches about a year ago.

There's a lot of info about this in the Blind mobile app. Details about Jan 15th being the date etc. Specifically SSP will be completely dissolved. Check it out and good luck all.

Intel is overdue for age discrimination, and given the EEOC barely takes action, why shouldn't they, it's not like they get punished for targeting a protected class.

@12L01z0v-4pyk: that would be big change for the software Gordian knot.

IAGS will have groups that see a 30-40% reduction. Most of these are strategic shifts away from the past decade into Raja's new mission. For instance, all of software will be reorganized to achieve this. The open-source group, which is now SSP, knows this is coming. It will be a brutal change whether you are let go or stay. But you all know to always be ready - it's the Intel way. Layoffs and fear dominate our culture. This is no surprise.

What is “considerable”?

Hardly surprised. Amazon top 10 best selling CPU list Intel only has one place almost all the time.

Hiring younger individuals for less will help the bottom line, the total number is not much of the issue in the eyes of Intel

Reduction based on projects? Otherwise, letting go some people and then hiring new people does not reduce actual number.

Hearing management doesn't like to pay people to leave, so likely not great packages.

Yes, watch for terms such as "globalization","follow the sun", "will meet through attrition". All the same old code words / phrases for age discrimination, new performance management metrics, etc. Intel only knows how to cut operational costs in order to increase the bottom line. Lack of innovation has been the norm for last decade.
