Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

Career Development

Honestly who uses the career development in Hub? I would expect the engagement to be extremely low just like the morale in this place.

Your VP of Engineering actually knows how to engineer?

Career development is non existing in Rig, yes you see all the BS on social media but the truth is people have not had a review for 5,6,7 years. Engineering has to be the worst structured ever unless you are in the tower click. Pushing people away who have ideas how it can be improved but keeping the old that's how we have always done it crew. Tinderbox unless VPs get involved and stop the rot and nepotism.

You can't rise above incompetent management nor will they let you. They are intimidated by intelligent hard working folks. So they keep you pinned down or simply try to get rid of you. Such a shame how this great company has fallen because of ignorant leadership. Elf'n crazy.

Why all the negativity you've just got to rise above the incompetent management and do your best for the business

Just do what many people there do for career development. Take advantage of this company to advance your own agenda. Whether its traveling on their dime, moonlighting, investing on external projects or just having fun... do what is best for YOU because these guys don't care and definitely have no career development plans for you. They are nothing but a bunch of incompetent duds in HR and Management.
You'd be surprised at how many people have second jobs or projects they pursue while working there and while on the clock and many make some good bank :) One VP of Engineering even designed and developed his own handlebar for cycling and would actively sell while working. The company knew about that one and might not be so kind to others pursuing their own thing because they are not in the right "click" or the right "culture" but F'm...think about you first.
Or you can just run over people on segways, sit on laps and hope those folks promote your career.
