Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Thank you for the great years!!

Thanks Macy's for the great 32+ years I had with you!!!! I had some many great opportunities and a great salary. While losing your job is not fun, I have to reflect on the experience and life lessons I learned . Retail is changing and I know that every retailer is juggling and trying new concepts to remain in business. Thanks for my severance and the pension! Life goes on.......

I am so sorry for you and your coworkers. I was in those shoes 4 years ago. 26 years in my store. When my store manager walked through the cafeteria carrying the large “liquidation” signs I cried like a baby. You will get through it as a team. Try to keep in touch with as many of your coworkers as possible. You will laugh at some of your memories and recall the funny stuff that happened. There is life after Macys.

Well I am in a store. It is closing. I have 25 years in. We have made all but 3 quarters of path to growth. We are very profitable. We were a top 10 store in2018. In top 100 for 2019. Someone wanted our building and now we are closing. We have all worked so hard. I am not worried for myself, but concerned for all the ladies who are widowed or single parents. Where will they be able to get insurance? I am sad for our community. Macy’s was the only national department store in town. We will probably not get another ever. Loyal customers of ours are angry. I can’t blame them. Our associates are disappointed. Of course. We are truly a team and are holding each other up. I know it was a business decision and not personal. We have absolutely had a wonderful time here. A family and yes , a family that’s personal. We are each other’s strength. I’m sorry for you others out there who seem to have so much turmoil at your store. We have never known that here. We laugh together, we lift each other, we help each other. We wouldn’t haven’t any other way. We will get through this break up together, probably with some tears and a lot of hugs. It won’t mean anything to “the company” but it will mean everything to us. I wish you all some peace & good fortune.

Congrats on sticking it out on the ups and downs of retail. I admire stories of employees who work their way from the bottom on up (with same company). My father started as an associate in a Kresge and worked his way to being a c-suite level executive at Kmart in the 70s-90s.

Enjoy your retirement if that is where you are st in life.

Actually, not crafted by HR...... I was not in one store I had 6 sites. Grateful for the experience the Company offered me and for the great colleagues I worked with. Grateful as well that the company offered severance pay and I had a pension carried over from Allied stores.

Most likely crafted by someone in HR to give us the warm fuzzies.
