Why does the Pharmacy get special holiday hours?

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but WHY does the RX get nice cushy hours on Thanksgiving and Christmas, while the Front Store get nothing but normal regular business hours? Last I checked we ALL work for the same company and we ALL should be treated equally! Period, end of discussion! The pharmacy is NOT better than the front store! And I want the real answer, not some c-ap answer about how the pharmacist makes too much money. Why should they get 9-2 on Thanksgiving, while we work till 10!!

For everyone complaining that the store is open on holidays, CVS is a greedy company, would you expect anything less?

To the poster who said the reason RX gets special holiday hours is because the Pharmacist makes too much money... What about every other day of the year? Why don’t we just change the pharmacy hours to 10am-4pm, seven days a week. At cvs RX can only be open 6 hours a day because the Pharmacist makes too much money! What’s the point of being in the RX business if all your gonna do is complain that the Pharmacist makes too much money? And yet, corporate has NO problem paying time and a half on Thanksgiving and double time on Christmas, to the front store people, just so the store can be open, and that’s not too much money?

Maybe if we had a union fighting for us they could get the stores closed. Strength in numbers.

Ok then, well it’s sure nice to know corporate cares about it’s store employees! Boy I tell you, it’ll be nice to spend some time with my family these coming holidays, starting with Thanksgiving! Finally corporate got the message and closed on holidays so the store employees can get a break, just like corporate!

Oh wait, check that, screw my family, we’re open on holidays and yes I’ll be working! Oh well, I can dream can’t I? But hey that’s cvs for you! Enjoy closing this Thursday and have fun trying to explain to Grandma why you won’t be there for the holiday, because your company refuses to close for even one day and you gotta work!

Other than thanksgiving, every other holiday is a ghost town for us.

IDK about your stores but some of the busiest days in mine are on holidays. Everywhere else is closed. On Xmas Day we do 4x the normal amount of sales. No lie. I don’t see CVS giving that up.

@12biXLEF-mag: With all the front stores that’ll be going to rx hours come January, where do you think people will go, when the pharmacy closes early on weekends? Walmart, Walgreens, Rite Aid, etc. So why would that matter on holidays?

I'm a pharmacist and I would love to have normal hours on the holidays. I have so many unfinished projects that could use some slow time to accomplish.

OP here... I apologize if I came off as whiny, I was venting my frustrations. I’m simply saying why can’t the front store also do 9-2? Or 8-2? The worlds not gonna end if people go elsewhere for a few hours. We all work hard and we all have families. And closing the RX early because the pharmacist makes too much money? Talk about putting profits ahead of customers! Oops I meant patients! After all we ARE a healthcare company aren’t we? And the sides of are buildings do say pharmacy don’t they? I don’t see why can’t rx and fs have the same holiday hours. In the grand scheme of things, it’s just 2-3 days out of the year, that there are big enough holidays to do this anyway. So, would it really k–l corporate to throw the front store a bone once in a while?

It's because you make $12/HR and the pharmacist makes $55/HR. It doesn't make business sense to have them open at all on Thanksgiving really.

Plus if they can't get their medicine today they'll just come get it tomorrow. If they can't get their makeup or greeting card because we're closed they'll go to Wal-Mart or walgreens and get it.

What a ridiculously whiny tirade trying to disguise as a question. Did you stomp your feet when you were typing too?

FIrst– the story is hilarious .

to answer the whiner question:

it doesnt pay to have the pharmacy open. But it DOES pay to have the FS open. All of the customers come in and say –I CANT BELIEVE YOU ARE OPEN YOU POOR PEOPLE– as they shop and actually are glad you are there.

go back to trade school and become a welder and you can be off too.

it is simply reacting to the customer.

Back in the Czarist days of Russia, when serfs tended their poor, miserable potato crops, there were two farmers, Boris and Ivan, who were neighbors. Both lived in abject poverty, dwelling with their families in squalid shanties.

One day while he was in the field, Ivan discovered a magic lamp and, after rubbing it, was greeted by a genie who offered him one wish for anything his heart desired. Ivan was a simple but good man and asked for a goat so that he could have milk for his family. His wish was granted: a beautiful nanny goat suddenly appeared, her belly full of milk.

Ivan joyfully brought the goat home and celebrated the gift with his family. Boris spotted the goat and Ivan’s happy family and his heart was filled with bitter envy over his neighbor’s good fortune. To his surprise, Ivan visited him the next day and gave him the lamp as a gift.

After Ivan departed, Boris took the lamp inside his hovel and rubbed it carefully. The genie appeared and offered him a single wish for his heart’s desire.

“Anything you want,” said the genie, “be it gold, jewels or a herd of goats – I will give it to you at once.”

Boris didn’t even pause to think. He narrowed his eyes at the genie and responded, “I want that Ivan’s goat should die.”
