Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel prefers Mediatek 5G Modem over iCDG

Even Intel doesn't want anything to do with its own toxic 5G modems.
Congratulations iCDG, mediatek beat you out in your own product.

The ARM based Infineon/Intel modems were 100% on par with Q in terms of size and power consumption. It was Intel‘s desire to move the modems to their inferior chip architecture that meant the modems wouldn‘t be competitive anymore.

Just remember the resources that were burned in Aicha‘s SoFIA pet project. Or how it was impossible to get the fat old Intel chip architects to rethink their architecture to match the demands of a modem.

Intel modems had huge quality problems. They couldn't compete with Q modems in performance, size and power consumption. They were bigger, slower and more power hungry as compared to Q's solution.

Apple is working on their own designs and could just pick and choose part of Intel's 5G IP which suits their SOC integration while keeping the rest of their IP portfolio as a defensive strategy against Q's litigation.

Like... they could have increased early thunderbolt adoption soooo much if they weren't so greedy. all more of the same. we'll see what this new round of layoffs bring.

They are after cheap solutions.

Yes, Intel should require MediaTek to use Intel 10 nm Process.

Intel does not know what to do with a modem, no matter what the brand.

Apparently Apple liked the Intel modem well enough to buy the whole business unit.

You know why the Intel modem is good enough for Apple? Simple: Because Apple is not bound to using Intel chips. They can use ARM for the modem.

The software has never been the problem. The problem has always been Intel's inability to produce hardware that is a good match for a modem.
