BIG MEETING 12/5/19 FOR COMMUTER OPS

Does anyone know what this meeting is about? Or is it a Meeting where management find out their fate?

The Purchase of Service between METRA and UPRR expires at the end of 2019. Likely next steps will be discussed at the meeting...

UP is starting talks with the unions to transition all commuter operations to Metra.
Metra will take over processes while UP will maintain properties (Cal Ave M19). UP employees will be given option to move to Metra or stay with UP. Seniority rosters and other details will need to be negotiated.

Not sure why anyone would stay at UP. Metra jobs are more stable.

Most likely more ownership of day to day operations to Metra. Management changes to, look at the Engineering Dept alone. Who needs that many managers and supervisors; multiple MTM, MSM plus multiple track and signal construction managers too. Not to mention structures Managers as well. Probably the same in Mechanical and definitely in operating with UP engineers and conductors on every train, probably soon to be Metra employees. Good team in Commuter, just an abundance of positions that have never been questioned as Metra covered the cost......anything can happen now

You’re probably correct, it’s getting crunch time to implement PTC on the METRA passenger trains.
