Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

BE rating

Is it concrete that you’d get laid off if you got a BE rating last quarter/performance review? Planning ahead for Monday..

If you get BE it means they are targetting you as someone who may walk away without a payment....ie same them cash. Do not walk away. Just turn up and do as little as possible. Maybe go on stress leave for a while and relax at home on full pay. Do as little as possible. ZERO RESPECT for the place. Its in worst 3% of places to work for in financial services.

Most probably all those who got lay-off are extra ordinary people and probably making 20-30% more than BNY. These incompetent manager could not handle the challenge and finally they felt the the victims of their own cowardliness!
I can’t wait December 2nd, relax 2 3 month on BNY sub and then slowly come out of hibernation and look for job early Spring!

My understanding is that they rate you with BE to legitimize future separation, that’s what happened in my case with the explanation “ The Bank expects more” ....when I asked a simple question could they be more specific or why I was not told this a year ago when I was given a bonus and rated ME or two years ago when I was rated EE , it was not answered...

No. 2 years in a row I was forced to lay someone off and both times it was not the BE, it was someone that management viewed as expendable.

If you see same set of managers who does not perform and got tones of complains from their team and still do not get lay-off, then he is within a strong alliance, they know how to talk and protect each other even if they get BE.
Performance doesn’t matter at BNY, kissing the rear does and those lazy rears are expert on this. Be happy guys, listen to your heart and you know you have done your best...work hard and doing the best doesn’t work, then it’s time to move on...you deserve something better!!!

No, getting ready a BE doesn't automatically mean layoff

I got my BE after all my ME and EE for about 20 years of service, so there is no logic whatsoever...so I am still guessing what is the criteria?

They conducted my evaluation right before lay off. The list was prepared way before this time. To prepare package they need time as well. So technical I was separated with good rate. In privet conversation they told me, if any way department manager decided you are next, so we gave you 'BE' do not upset others. All my coworker was surprised and admitted that my "BE" looked very strange and not fair. I did my work, help my coworker to complete their assignment and did about 40% of my direct manager work. Even my direct manager told me "sorry it was not mine designation I was told to do so" So all depends on politics of your manager , some times direct, some times department or even higher, depending on relationship in department.

Not surprised. This consistent with how things of done at BNYMellon. Does anyone know how they actually make the determination for BE and the lay-off list? For the BE, it sounds like a personal judgement call by the manager who compares you to other managers at the same level with totally different responsibilities. It’s like, I prefer apples over oranges. And if you have a weak boss that feels threat by you due to his own insecurities and shortcomings, you’re going to become a rotten orange that will be toss. Of course, if you’re older than 40, they will consider you overripe and again, good to be toss. The last 2 may be the criteria for the layoff list. This is not clear. What remains clear is the poor leadership and the false hope. Also there is a lacking of humanity in the organization. A package would be a blessing. If anyone knows how they make this decision, I would be very interested in knowing. Thank you in advance!

No, they let people go who are rated meets expectation. No one should feel “safe”.
