Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Should I stay or go

I am a temp lineman right now till march of next year. Hoping to get made permanent. Do you think there will be a future after 2023? Looking to get at least 15 years here.

Stick it out and see. Don’t cut out early. I know some guys hired after the lay-off clause was placed in the contract and they are still at their job.

What are the chances of becoming a permanent lineman with Verizon? I was offered a position today but it's listed as a temporary position addressing a project not lasting longer than 3 years. Can anyone give any insight on the chances of it becoming permanent? I cant see how a company can pay these wages and pay for your CDL just to send you somewhere else after three years.

don't waste 3 years here. they will be able to lay you off anytime, even 10 years down the road. you are not protected under the no layoff clause. no pension. thet will use you up and spit you out.

Lineman..god no.Take advantage of the tuition reimbursement.Next contract should be interesting to say the least. I've worked with some fantastic term employees and seen the company kick them to the curb when term expired. Some of that was the unions fault.

I would say stay if you are liking it. If something else comes along consider and compare. Good Luck!

I am certainly very thankful for this job, very decent pay and benefits, that being said, I could have done without all the unnecessary b—s— I've had to endure over the years..... It will be the same with the new guys, why are they temps? They haven't hired in 25 years. Just make them permanent. No one needs a sword hanging over their head every day. Whatever. Happy Thanksgiving.

An interesting question that I actually asked myself as a temp 24 years ago before I had my wife, two kids (one now away in college) before I had my house, 5 years left on a 30yr mortgage ( thank you Fios ) three decent cars in the driveway and lots of family vacations ( Disney...Hawaii...Cruses ) with wonderful memories.

I can't speak for you or anyone else..but I'm glad I stayed. It's not a bad company to work for and if we focused more on the grateful things in our lives than the negative we would be happier.

Then, I'm pretty sure, you would be even thankful you worked here.

Stay here, while you keep looking for a better job. Most current techs will be gone in 4years, so if you don't find something better, you'll definitely be in demand here.

Don't leave, not yet. Where would you go to? Unlikely another telephone company so that leaves being a contractor with another company. Stay where you are and hope for the best. If made full time then s— up/beg for all the fiber training you can get sent to school for. That way, if the dookie hits the fan and you have to leave, then you have the certs under your belt.

By 2023 many of the current employees will be leaving either with an offer or on their own. The more that leave, the better for you. Hang in there, I think you will get the time you need.

If you find something better then take it but i wouldn’t take anything less. You might not be a lineman in 15 years with Verizon but they will always need some sort of field tech. If they make you permanent you will probly have a long career with them.
