Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

REMODEL

Why are they remodeling some clubs seems like a waste of money. The same club I just quite (YEAH) is up for remodel again this happen here around 9 years ago also. Unless they tear up the concrete that has chunks out of it & replace the meat & bakery coolers that forklifts have hit & freezer doors also with huge dents in them it will still look the same TRASH. Oh well I really don't care anymore but it seems like some of the people that deserve raises that money should go there instead. I know I was one of many people that didn't get a raise.

I totally understand and feel what you went thru, please remember that a remodel is messy and disruptive even in the best planned project. I also realize that the contractor chosen was clearly ignoring the quality of the project he or she was in charge. It would be nice to know that Sam's is watching the progress and addressing the issues. It would appear, at least in this remodel, that may not have been the case. Did you think about sharing your frustration with someone in charge, even above the store level?

I also understand how frustrating iit is to feel you are paid less because you didn't get a raise that you think you should have had.

I hope that you are happy in your new position and are paid what you think you are worth.

My answer to the person who asked why I care , because I think most of the people who got raises at the club I left DID NOT deserve it. The remodel I went through I was in the bakery ,had no room to work at all ,construction works in & out and always in the way, had to cover all the bake or move it onto the floor or out the back door. Lost a lot of business in that dept. and after it was all done got a third oven .lost the proof box. Oven was great but they should of enlarged the area way to small the floors were a joke ,the contractor was lazy and did a bad job the other part of the club could not even tell anything was done. Things started falling apart mangers just would say oh well, just seemed like a waste of money .Maybe if I could of gotten a raise which I got my last one 2 years ago ,I might still be working there .

Remodeling is part of the business world. Of all the stores you shop at how often have they been updated? The ones who haven't will seem old, dirty etc. There are dollar advantages from suppliers. In some cases tax advantages, yes tax's. There is the consumer increase and the extra publicity that comes with it. Remodeling is worth every penny spent over all.

When it comes to all the raises that people think they are owed, who is going to pay for these raises? Living costs will go up so the raises will become mute in a short time. I suggest if you want to get a raise do the work, become a star in your area and then ask for one. Try turning your negative attitude and down right hatefullness into positive energy. You will fiind that not only your work life will inprove but you personal world will become so much better too. I'm not saying what is going on around isn't frustrating or even wrong, react to change it, not to add it to your hate list, try it once you might find a good thing in it!

Question for the author, Why do you care since you left the company?

Every remodel I've witnessed since I've worked here has been a downgrade.

Break room remodel made it worse.

Desk remodel gave us desk parts that fall with the slightest touch and cheap chrome scratch top all scratched up in first week.

Cash register remodel gave us inferior registers and belts. Plus impossible to clean cracks where meat/chicken blood and spills pool. The cracks are literally filled with black crud. Register screens that don't tilt up or down to compensate for cashier's height. Plus most don't have a front screen so members can see purchases rung. Whoever approved these registers can't have ever run a register in their lives. Efficiency an impossibility.

And latest jewelry remodel.....glass doors won't shut without struggling. Impossible to be fast.

Home office should hire an efficiency expert or ask a cashier to evaluate register systems before purchases. Maybe go to a Kroger and see belts run the entire ledge, not just at the start. I can't believe home office is so undereducated when it comes to how the real world works. Are they so rich they done do their own grocery shopping?

Remodels are done about every 10 years. Raises only go to people making below what they raise it to😉
