Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Are they for real?

They gave this joke of a company a Gold Medallion for supporting Veterans?? I’m a Veteran who was laid off for shareholders wealth, how is that being supportive? I know I’m not the only laid off Veteran. This is just unreal, are they paying for this fake news to hide the truth of what they’re doing?

There are two levels: gold and platinum. UP got the easier to get one.

They didn’t give a damn about veteran status when they told us to get the hell out to save the shareholders a buck.

UP has some people including both managers and agreement employees that as individuals support the military and veterans, but the company as a whole isn’t any more military friendly than any other company. They definitely try to act like it with PR releases and the military engine, but a lot of it is just words.

I knew a UP manager that was in the reserves and volunteered for a deployment overseas. The superintendent said “this guy would rather go to war than come to work and do his job”.

I’ve also noticed a lot of wanna be military types wearing these Grunt shirts that never served a day in the military.

I can relate to the OP's feelings. And also to another poster over combat issues and added stress. I was hired under that tax relief program straight the service. Thanks to having a DV plate on my car, I nominate the RRB for the Gold medallion. There the only ones taking care of this veteran. Thanks to a hostile, anti-veteran manager.

The point he was making was up got paid to hire him. I want to know if they have to give that back since they cut him.

You got hired because you had military experience. You got cut because you were low man on the totem pole, that’s called seniority.

as far as the veteran's ERG, yeah they charge a fee to join it, and I don't think that would be a bad thing if you actually got something out of it, but what did anyone get out of it? where did all that money go? no tshirts when you join. no events for vets. maybe that's what paid for that military locomotive paint job? i guess you can print the receipt showing you paid to join and frame it on your wall.

UP did have a big push to hire veteran's a few years ago. However, they got a tax credit for hiring unemployed veterans under a bill passed by congress. Veterans that were hired were asked to fill out a form so the company could get the tax credit. So, they should get some credit for hiring veterans but it also made business sense for them.

They set up a group for veterans just like the BEN and LEN. They were charging a fee for vets to join it. What kind of group charges someone to join, who risked their lives for the country? I am disabled from being in combat. I have not been laid off as of yet, but I have had issues related to PTSD exacerbated by the stress. I do not go to EAP because I am also afraid they will take me out of service.
The company put posters for s–c-de awareness in the restrooms at my facility. What a slap in the face. They lay off thousands of employees yet tell them " Don't feel despair"? I am saddened by the greed and lack of empathy for employees displayed the the shareholders.

Yeah but did you see the employee appreciation and military engines?
