If an employee gets laid off and is given severance and a certain amount of notice before their last day of work, does the employee have the right to their severance if they decide not to work till that last day given to them by the employer or is this considered as if the employee quite?

If I’m not mistaken they give you an option. I know someone that was affected by the lay-off in October. They were advised they didn’t have to work out their last 2 weeks. They were still paid for that time, and full severance.
Yes you will be putting your severance in jepordy if you do not work until your release date as you are only eligible if you are not terminated with cause before the release date. My position was also eliminated and another important thing I learned in the benefit meeting is that if you apply for an internal position and don't take it if offered ands it's considered lateral ( it was like less than 10 percentage less than current pay and no more than fifty miles away) you also will not be eligible for severance making me really deliberate whether I want to apply internally.
Agree. I will be taking care of necessary things but won’t be coming in early, working late OR checking emails on the weekend.
I'd be very careful not working until the date they release you. Read your severance agreement, payment is contingent on the employee fulfilling certain things. Don't put your severance at risk IMO.
I received a call on Wed from my boss informing me that my position had been eliminated. He/she came right out and said the paperwork will seem like you have to work until your last day but know that you should take the time to gather your thoughts, update resume and even look internally. I am taking this as I don’t need to stress my self out to get projects completed before my last day.
Yea I’m pretty sure you’ll get the severance
