Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

How I left Xerox

Believe it or not, Xerox still has a great reputation & the name alone is iconic and recognizable to employers. My resume would hunt with Xerox on it. Business skills I gained during my 15 years there were quite valuable. I applied externally for about a month and a half and received a lot of call backs and interviews. Every interviewer asked me why I wanted to leave Xerox and my answer was that the digital world is making printing obsolete & so there was not much opportunity for me left - all the interviewers agreed & accepted this. I also left on my accord (not waiting around to be laid off) so I came from a position of power. Furthermore, I was job searching in a strong job market. That being said - if you are laid off now or recently you are in luck. The current market is strong & Xerox on your resume will hunt. IF YOU WAIT you are at risk of losing your job during recession or once Xerox’s terrible decisions are finally exposed to the world (they are currently not) which will taint the value of the brand or weaken your chances at new emplument. I encourage everyone left at Xerox (who wants to) to leave, you can do it, be positive & you can land your dream job in a wonderful organization like I did. Target newer companies or those in growth who will benefit from your skills set and experience. One thing Xerox does is make us resilient. I mean if they haven’t k–led you yet they have just made you stronger. Good luck to all!

After 30 plus years at Xerox I have found most companies aren’t really interested if you worked at Xerox or what you did for them.Even the resume company referred by Xerox tended to discount long term experience.I found the Xerox suppose Branded name wasn’t so shiny anymore ...Laid-off in 2013 but found other work...

Most companies I have interviewed with have said they didn’t realize Xerox was even still around.

I believe he's saying it still holds weight in the job market. If so, he's correct.

What does "Xerox on your resume will hunt"? You mentioned it twice.
