Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Don't buy that new home in Basking Ridge yet. I'd buy property in Irving TX first...

@3kse .... the FCC mandate/agreement as I recall will require the phone companies to maintain critical infrastructure copper circuits ( FAA, E911, Alarms, etc. ) and service to any area where there is not an alternative for dial tone. The companies, if they choose and can do so, may provide that dial tone via a wireless NID at the side of the customer premise.

So, if the local cable company or another company of any ilk, is providing wired, fiber, coax or wireless dial tone to the area then the phone companies can abandon the copper other than previously mentioned critical circuits.

I think they can begin to abandon copper in 2024, after the next contract. But they still have to provide some kind of service. I guess that supposed to be 5g, but I don't know if it will be ready by then. So, don't plan your move yet.

This all takes time. I would image that Verizon wants out of the city politics and union politics of the New York; New Jersey probably is not much better. Once Verizon and other companies can begin to abandon copper in, I believe it is 2023 or 2024, and they have reduced their business to being the fiber pipe to the world and wireless service, there is no need to fight New York or keep corporate offices in the northeast.

I think it would be a safe bet that in the future, Verizon will operate out of business friendly Texas.
