Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

New focal process

Just came to know from an insider that Intel starting an online focal process. Very different than what it used to be. Will it be annually or every 6 months?

So Intel will stop granting RSU's in focal or will it continue?

Will the focal change anything for better or will it make it worse and will be more political mow?

The new focal process heavily uses AI compared to the last focal where the manager can slot you into 5 categories only. AI algorithms love multiple labels, slide bars and categories. Based on these labels and slide bar locations collected at your quarterly meetings with your manager...AI will determine who stays, who needs to be let go...with endless ways of HR to mine and slice/dice the data for the whole company and drill down into each department. It is sad...but the new focal relies on this algorithm to dole out stock, promos etc...

The relationship between you and your boss (and to a lesser degree your boss and their boss) is critical to your success at Intel. The new performance system makes this even more important; your manage owns (and is fully responsible) for your review results, the potential for management peers to challenge focal results is nearly gone, now left up to HR and informal peer management discussions. RSU’s will stay and will become an even higher percentage of future t-comp increases.

Good post but it's YOUR career and YOUR performance, not you're career and you're performance. You're is a contraction of you + are and isn't even pronounced the same (or shouldn't be, which could be part of the problem when trying to figure out if you should use your or you're).

You're sounds a bit like 2 syllables, your is 1. So if you say to yourself... is it "you are career?" and the answer is no... then the proper word to use is "your".

Sorry, don't mean to sound like the grammar police but your/you're drives me a bit nuts. lol

Politics is the buzz word. If you excel in doing politics, any focal, new or old is same, if you cannot do politics whatever great things you achieve in work, will not make any mark!

Intel continues to follow the same non-effective focal processes. They like to rename the process and refer to it as something else to give the impression of change. Your success depends on how much effort your manager is willing to invest in supporting you through the focal process and not so much on your actual job performance. If you have a lazy manager or a manager who gives preference to his/her best friends and/or drinking buddies, you're career will suffer and you will do better to find a another position, even if you're performance is outstanding in your present role. The company handles layoffs the same way. They call it something different each go round. One must be politically savvy and know how to navigate the politics to survive layoff after layoff. Intel politics needlessly stresses its employees causing its workers to burnout. Most people who worked hard for their degrees and experience do take pride in their work and just want the opportunity to be productive and successful. Navigating the ridiculous politics takes too much time and distracts from ones career goals. This causes goal seeking, productive and career minded people to look elsewhere for work. Many who stay are simply career politicians and the real work is very frequently outsourced.
