Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford is charging for COBRA even if you didn’t request it

Watch your bank account closely. Ford debited my account almost $2000 for COBRA without warning. Initially I didn’t understand why this happened because I had not enrolled in their medical coverage. As with all things that involve NESC, there were phone calls with long hold times and incident requests before getting it resolved. They will be refunding my money but I had to jump through numerous hoops before resolving it.

Gotta have insurance. The “bypass insurance and file bankruptcy if you get a big bill” plan might work for a one time life threatening emergency but it won’t work if you end up with a serious disease that requires multiple treatments. They’ll let you die if you can’t pay for those treatments at the time of service or provide proof of insurance.

Gotta have insurance. Life in the big city :(

Unless you throw in the towel bankruptcy will follow you to your grave.

Screw that I'd never pay those rediculus insurance prices, you people are nuts!!! And by paying it, you justify what they charge. If you have a major issue, just file for bankruptcy.

Medicare for all - not a chance

65 is the minimum age now to go on it right now and will probably go to 66/67 before long.

No way no how they are going to make it easier for early retirement. Collecting your hard earned is job #1 and you have to be working for them to do it.

They are bluffing when they say - for all.

The more i hear stories like this...
the more i'm coming around to that 'Medicare for All' talk.

Not that i totally trust the government handling my healthcare.... but the current system is NOT working (for a lot of folks).

The NESC is a joke and there needs to be legal ramifications. Have been trying since November to get my Cobra. benefits. And they some how can't get the info right on Ford's side so I have had to multiple appointments canceled as Blue Cross will not authorize. I have called at least 10 times to get this resolved and it is still not. They need to stop living in the stone age and allow things to be emailed and called in not by snail mail. Can they be held legally responsible for their stupidy?

It is very odd. I enrolled in, and was billed for, dental and optical but had coverage for neither. I did not enroll in medical but was also billed for COBRA. Since everyone enrolled online it must be a coding issue.

This is so odd. I know people who signed up for cobra and NESC can’t get the deductions to happen, and tells them they have no insurance. And here we have people who don’t want cobra and are being charged. Some computer code is probably bad. Who knows if that is on F side or NESC side.

Don't know what you do but I know for a fact that between the 3 of them F definitely pays more and benis are on par at the very least. I live less than 5 minutes from Tech Center on Mound and drive to Dearborn for $$$$$$$$$.

I've worked for all three and I know for a fact Ford is the worst in pay, and we'll everything really.
Not surprised to read this at all.
I'd like to see Ford go away and he bought by another competitor, they don't produce much if anything that's of value or exciting.

There’s a series of posts on this site under “costs to budget for when considering early retirement” that quotes some costs. Maybe that will be helpful.

It was just under $1800. When I worked for Ford I only insured myself so I assume it was for one person. I couldn’t get additional information from them so I don’t know if it was for the months since SRD or for future months. It’s frustrating because you talk with a different call center person each time making it hard to get consistent information. Each person would explain that it was my cobra payment and I would explain that I didn’t enroll in cobra. The last person that I talked with was very helpful and he followed up to get it resolved. If you call enough times you’ll eventually get someone who is willing and able to give you information. It’s not reasonable that they can’t give you the cost. Few people are willing to purchase something if they don’t know the cost.

Almost $2000–that’s a lot.

May I ask please, is that two months coverage for a family (couple with children)?

If you call and try to find out what your COBRA premium is if you stop working, it’s hard to get an answer

Thanks for reading
