They need to do the same thing with leads and do it right. They need to point out the ones that are not doing a very good job that calls in all the time or takes off every weekend. They don't need to rate them on how close friends they are like most would do. Because I know if they truly rated our MMS or COS whatever u call or team leads on the floor I know they would be replacing at least 3 or 4 of the ones at our club

It's a way to make sure an under performer in X wouldn't be a solid performer in Y. Yes this is a way to make sure that they cut what they view as waste but it's also to promote others. 95% of those discussed are Solid, so in a year like this one where it's likely one ASM will be released, it's important to rank everyone and know who your future Club Managers are and know who is where they should be. From the few times I've been privy to hear the call, CMs often have 1 person they feel needs work, and the others are solid, maybe one above that. Essentially, your CM is making the choice to make the cut that would suit them best. Most CMs try hard to keep everyone in their team even if they know what is likely coming. If you've ever had to be in a position to have to make the decision to cut people, it is a heart ripping experience, you know you're potentially ruining someone.
Calibrations are completed for Evaluations. If someone is under performing they might be cut.
The calls are long. They cover every assistant pros and cons and grade them on how promotable they are. Has been done for many years.
1xwf ditto for me too. I worked for and with some great people over the last 20 years. Always "thought" about leaving many times but stayed AND still gave 100% to our associates & members. They are the only ones that mattered and the MM & Regionals didn't like that. I should only have cared about them and their brainless direction/orders. They didn't like to be questioned or challenged against things being done wrong and the loss of integrity & culture in our market. So much better in the outside. I'm a manager on a bit smaller scale now, getting paid a little less but well worth my sanity and the undue stress that hurts our bodies and minds.
Calibration is when they decide who they are going to cut, usually based on cost and age factors rather than performance on metrics. I got calibrated out of the company last year. Just today my new employer thanked me for my leadership and told me that he was very thankful for Sam's stupidity.
Ditto.
Good luck to all management associates who are probably in for a bad year. There is life after Sam;s Club.
Its when the decisions are really made on who is going to be eliminated in February. MM are most likely trying to ensure CM's give more development needed & below expectations rating so they can "claim" they were eliminated due to performance related, reality...."made up" issues. Even if they really don't deserve it. An assistant mgrs that received ANY coaching over the past 4 months, sadly you can expect to be on the list. Most likely for petty BS stuff that EVERYONE deals with everyday but only certain unfavorables get held accountable for. But, all the same for their end goal of downsizing without coming out with the truth that we must downsize. I was so happy I stepped down from management years ago. Come in do my job & go home. Retirement soon.
It's where all CMs decide what to give their AMs on their evals. They are being strict about what the CMs can give this year. Calls are running 2-3 days, four hours a day. Everything is hush hush. Feel like something big is coming.
