100 million dollars before anyone notices or questions why? So if this railroad has huge amount of small derailments totaling 1 million each, do you honestly believe the extra cost won't get some attention? Or let's say the UP has a 100 million dollar derailment, then that usually means it k–led people or took out buildings. Your argument of it needing to be 100 million seems a little off. Every cost has to have an explanation within a corporation. Lance is a fool obviously. I just can't believe no one would question a 50 million dollar derailment.

The $100 million derailment comment is not false. While that seems like a insane cost, think of it like this- if you make $5 billion/quarter in revenue that is 2%. Assume similar earnings through out other three quarters and it’s .5%.

For comparison-
If you had $1 million x .5% = $5000

It’s not like the company pays the monthly bills and gives all the rest to the shareholders. I’m sure every quarter they put a large chunk in the bank as well. A sort of rainy day find for general unforeseen but expected business expenses.

Ok they're self insured, but the money still has to come from somewhere. That expense has to be recorded. That 5-10 million was an estimate. The cleanup was that cost, but what about the cost of the cars that were destroyed? Anyone want to guess on the actual cost? The argument of the cost needing to be over 100 million before the questioning happens is false. Given the fact of the UP having more derailments is already raising questions. They're spending a huge amount in these derailments. The size of the derailments has gotten much bigger. The WI derailment they're saying might be due to a broken rail? I doubt that very seriously. A former employee there in the Twin cities said this train kept breaking knuckles before it even left.

I think the lead contaminated soil in Omaha is making these fools make some poor decisions.

When you drag trains out of the yards and drop them in sidings of course your dwell time goes down, your first os is made, trip plan compliance is made. Then factor in whatever pencil whipping is being done to show positive gains in areas sure everything looks great, just wait eventually it’s going to show up and hopefully they will have to explain everything but more than likely they will be long gone before the truth comes out and they next sap will have to answer for their misdeeds.

Isnt the railroad self insured. I would assume x amount goes into the insurance account monthly or whatever and it is probably ran as a separate part of the company so they can go bankrupt and screw people if they need to but 5 or 10 million isnt that much when you look at the profits we make.

Insurance pays for the clean up.
