Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Show of Hands

Show of hands, how many Managers, Asst. Managers, or any manager for that matter. How many of us are reading these posts sh***ing our pants every single day waiting for the bottom to fall out. Wondering if it is my turn to be displaced. Wondering who will take care of my family. Wondering if I can pay my mortgage because of the company wide greed that is happening for the almighty dollar. In today's market when a company can post a 5% gain in one year and then turn around and downsize the hard work that it took to help your company make that gain. It makes zero sense to me what Arkansas is thinking. This company has so much to learn.

The thing about it is those in Arkansas making these decisions about reducing headcount.....the same thing will happen to them at some point as well. Amazing how it all happens.

Happens in many businesses, especially in retail. Sites like this certainly dont help the paranoia, but to be honest, after going through a club closure, market reshuffles, project pretzel and the like, I have 2 pieces of advice:
Be in a member facing position and do so well that you are asked to take on special projects.
Everyone I've seen let go outright has been not surprising and most everyone that's been displaced has had opportunities to stay in the company.
As for me, I dont worry anymore. I'm capable of getting another job if necessary and I'm an ASM who does a good job. Nothing you do will change the eventual outcome.

It doesn't matter. Nothing you do matters. I'm a assistant. I take it a day at a time. I run good, profitable departments. I do my job everyday. And if I I am let go tomorrow, that's okay. I've got my resume ready. But that isn't going to make me any more stressed out then this job can already be. Whatever will be will be.

Been with Sam’s for 26 years and we use to just worry at the first of the year about job cuts now it’s all year.

I wouldn't stress reading information on this website. Most of the information is fake and just posted to get a rise out of people.

Personally, I'm just sick of the waiting and speculation. If my position is gone, let me know. The secrecy that is surrounding it is ridiculous. People need to make decisions on the future. Hiding it, is just making everyone less productive, as the rumor Mill is rampant. Everyone is giving opinions, rather than fact. Dear corporate, we are adults and understand that companies go through this stuff, what we don't understand, is what's the hold up in getting us the info?!
