Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Amazed that so many remain here

Don’t quit, line employees. Update your resume and get a reality check while you wait for the severance package. You’ll have a plan, whatever happens.

Managers, have a different problem. The company is forcing you to comply with unethical and hurtful policies. You could be laid off anyway, but you might be better off finding another job and moving on. No severance package is worth the hurt you cause, or your guilty conscience.

For sure, layoffs will continue. My department has been laying off regularly for over five years, and had stopped promotions even before that.

I was amazed that so many of us remain here, as bad as it is. But I know a lot of people laid off that now have no income and are still unemployed. Hard to believe since we are having the best economy ever, but true. Good luck to all!

Good post from @13468cz0-1uek.

True, we are NOT and there never has been a socialist country that provides for its citizens. Don’t listen to current politicians. The trademark of Socialism is 1% owning 99% of the wealth. No exceptions, ever. Study history millennials... it was not taught to you but you are capable of learning it. Read Doctor Zhivago, about the Bernie Sanders of exactly 100 years ago. It is as much as accurate history as a fiction novel.

It’s a tough decision for those that remain. But here is a thought: you are only getting older, and maybe less employable. (That might not be true, but who knows.)

Do you wait for a package and then find yourself unable to find a job?

Or do you look now while your skills are still fresh?

We need to consider our future and plan the best way forward. One thing is for sure: BNY is NOT reliable.

Best plan seems to be, start looking for a new job while still here, and collect a package if laid off first.

We in our US office know it's coming. we just don't know how much or how fast they will make it all happen.

Glad to have been laid off. Note this company is going to lay off more in order to spend the billions on tech. In fact, learn Python if you want to stick around at a bare minimum.

Reminder: we are NOT in a socialist country that provides for its citizens. We live under a CAPITALIST system where companies can do whatever they want to satisfy their investors, AKA capitalists. This system is often great for many - including workers - but not so much for others. Don’t give up! Keep trying, and GOOD LUCK!
