5G is the dream turned nightmare

5G is the dream turned nightmare.
Not going to happen kids, the product s—s and everyone and their grandmother knows it.
You realize those transmitters are dangerous right? You realize many towns are pushing back on having it deployed? More importantly, there isn’t anywhere near the desire for the product as was for Fios. The only excitement you hear about it comes from the exec board. Everywhere else is a yawn
So a better question is: How are they going to steer through this mess?

es you need apple implementing 5g in their handsets and some k–ler app which needs a lo of bandwidth. Probably AR/VR . Until then people are not going to pay more

In my role I have spoken to hundreds of thousands of customers. I can confidently say that 99.9% of people do not care about or want 5G.

Verizon execs don’t want to say that Verizon notably lacks mid- and low-band spectrum that will be critical to offering 5G service outside of big cities, where mmWave deployments work best. 2020 Capital Exp Plan is not going to address the lack of mid -and low-band spectrum.

It is sad to see them posting the benefits of 5G technology and unable to explain as to how they are going to get there. They are anxiously waiting on McKinsey, Bain, Alex Associates, Infosys, InfoVision , etc consultants to explain and implement the 5G vision.

As stated by myself a year and a half ago knowing that Verizon was misinforming the public.

5G is waiting for Apple. Only when Apple phones come out with 5G, will 5G take off. However, you also need Huawei to make it happen. I know a lot of you won't like my comment about Huawei (neither do I), but just look at Nokia and Ericsson. Stocks are down and continuously on a bumpy ride. Trump has cleared the playing field for both Nokia and Ericsson to get rolling on 5G fast, but both companies are moving like a turtle. If they go any slower, we'll be looking at 6G and skip 5G all together. Looks to me like management has no clue about how to role out 5G fast.

@1xow: In 2023 we will still be here cutting in fibers. You will probably be gone by then. It’s funny that what you’re wishing for us is 3-1/2 years away LOL. In those 3-1/2 years our jobs are guaranteed. You may get booted from your low paying job any day.

Don't you mean "5g the dream turned nightmare" is the unions wet dream?

Even if 5g totally blows, which it does. It is still better than what is currently in place. Shareholders are over hearing about wireline woes. Change is here. And it is here to stay.

Don't worry my little entitledes. I am certain $40 an hour wire pullers are needed somewhere...2023 will be the year of hopes and dreams.

5G has a long way to go. The fact that the latest iPhone does not support 5G tells you that this technology is just a media buzz.

Well, one thing we found out in the last year is that they need double and maybe triple the transmitters. The effective range is just not enough.

Also, the customers will have to mount antennas in windows facing the nearest transmitter for better service.

This hasn't been proven yet. It needs more study. Fact is, microwave/mm waves have already been used in wireless comm for many years. Ham radio operators such as myself have used More importantly, there isn’t anywhere near the desire for the product as was for Fios.
There was demand for FiOS in the beginning because cable internet had very little competition, and many people couldn't wait to dump the cableco triple play. Fast forward to today, triple plays are going bye-bye in favor of internet only, FiOS has stagnated mostly in gpon land and the cableco actually gasp upgraded their networks to DOCSIS 3.1+. Not to mention the ridiculous cost of video pkgs and stbs. Unfortunately, time is running out for FiOS. 1st gen 5G hardware is competitive with FiOS data throughputs, and the next gen (later this year) will blow it out.
