Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Xerox tech pay range

I’m a tech for a company that was part of Global Imaging. Our techs make anywhere from $22-30 per hour. I’ve seen where companies come in and change (lower) employees’ pay to the ‘going rate’. I’m curious what the range of pay is for an actual Xerox tech. Several salary websites show the going rate anywhere from $17.50-$22.00.

Copier repair uses the same troubleshooting skills as many other roles. Diagnose the issue, find the best/cheapest/quickest repair option, doing inventory/parts management, customer service skills, etc. While the specific actions like "identify whether the feed roller is functioning correctly" or "read and diagnose UI controller fault" may not be applicable to other jobs, I think all of those general skills are readily transferable (and necessary) in other positions.

I think to myself now and again, ‘I’ve been repairing copiers for 30 years, what else am I qualified to do at this point’. I’ve seen jobs for techs posted for other industries that say right in the posting ‘This is not copier repair’.
I guess I’ll just stick around for now. I’m making almost $30 an hour.

In Canada we effectively make less than we did 20 years ago. 8 years with zero increases to base, another long period with c—amamy "incentive" schemes (no increase to base) and a very few 1-2% actual raises. Too embarrassed to say what we actually make now.

the longer you work for a company, the less you make compared to new hires.

I know of a 30 year trained CSE, working on Nuvera's/iGen/etc. Was working mandatory rotating 3rd shift, rotating weekends, rotating on call, etc, etc. Suffering for years under management constantly yelling at them about budget, company car, 07's, etc.

Took a job as an operator at a customer, M-F, 7a-4p, 10 minutes from home, no OT, no Weekends, no on-call, running the same machines he worked on. Making more money than he did as a seasoned highly trained and experienced technician. Stress level = 0

@ 1ehs pretty sure at this point, if you did that they would walk you out the door. Our managers swear their hands are tied and can’t do anything to give us raises. 14 year global tech trained on printers, to production, to wide formats. Not even making $19.00.

Turn in a resignation and state it’s because of higher pay elsewhere in the market. But you must be confident that they need you and be ready to walk if they call your bluff. Having a higher offer from the competition in hand is a home run. If you are the lone tech in a rural area, you can name your price. I’ve see it happen a few times.

I make $25 an hour as direct. I'm an A3, which is the highest HR coding for a field tech. I've been with the company 5 years. I started at $17 an hour. Only way I got substantial raises was transferring to different managers. That was a tip an old vet told me. I've utilized it every few years.

Before I first transferred, I learned a co worker (A3) of mine made less than my hiring wage, despite working 20+ years with the company and trained on more products.

I know someone in CA who makes $35 an hour as an A3. He's been with company 20+ years.

The old timers (Hired in the early 80s) make the best money I'm told. Especially those in walking territories. You will never catch up to them even if you work 100 years in the company.
