Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Was promoted to Grade 6 last year and got redeployment notice today

In Oregon working closely with servers. I don't understand. I got recently promoted, got along with my team, a respectable growing engineer in all manners. I get that maybe I can be replaced with a cheaper Bangalore technical resource, but there are local US FLMs who get paid way more than I do and really do not contribute anything.

Justification was cost cutting and my skills compared with a ranking within the org were not needed anymore. That was the official message. Unofficial, my second level manager did not like me. It was my first level manager at the time, and has since left, who recognized my achievements and rewarded me.

Sorry to hear, hold your head up and be proud of who and what you did.

Intel record revenues, record profits and the beam counter needs to squeeze, really? What about taking all that talent and refocus, nope easier to just shove people aside.

OP, what was the justification/criteria communicated to you?

Very sorry to hear about your redeployment. Today an Intel fellow was handed a redeployment notice. Wish you the very best!

OP here. Was taken into a conference room by manager. No HR present.

Some other members of my team got cut.

How was this communicated? Were you taken into a "room" with HR?

I recommend getting out of Intel ASAP and never looking back. You will see how much better the management and life is working somewhere else... Good luck.

Did your whole team get redeployed? Sometimes it’s just bad luck being in a project that’s cut.

Too many pet projects which don't have any chance to make money. Too much customization in design flow. Process technology getting behind. Too many managers doing nothing but attending useless meetings with same old slide week after week.

While competitions are not sitting idle

I’m so sorry this happened to you. What group? IT HPC?

If it’s any consolation this same thing happened to me 2 years ago. Was promoted then redeployed. I found another job at Intel Oregon. Get your updated resume out there TODAY on any job that looks like a partial fit. On the interesting jobs set up an informational 1:1 to ask questions of the hiring manager. Consider it and treat it as an interview. Apply for jobs one grade level above and one grade level below, so 5-7. Usually they can hire a 6 for a posted 5 job if the fit is right, or a 6 for a 7 job.

The only thing that saved me was getting out there early. There were 10 people in my group laid off, only 2 were able to get other positions.

It s—s royally I know. Try not to get swept up in the emotion of it (yet). Strike the jobs board while others are grieving and get a jump on them. Good luck.

Remember: No company will care about you as much as you care about the company. It's all greed at the top. CEOs trying to make their millions until their contract runs out. This is the way most big companies work these days. Don't feel bad, just try to find another job.
