MacysTech SF Closing

Based on a recent news article, MacysTech, headquartered in San Francisco will be closing their doors completely and moving everything to their Johns Creek, GA center. Do you know if they have even thought about letting employees transition/move as well. A work from home option for those who would like to continue, but still are tied down to be in the area for personal, unforeseen reasons?
Is this truely possible without providing any breathing time for employees to find other jobs? Does California labor laws support this?

My source that has signed an NDA has informed me that they will be shutting down the sf dot com building by March. First wave if lay offs is the end of the month on January 31 and will continue until March. Official announcement will be in February. Please try to find new work else where. This company does not respect your time and resources. If you havent already been asked to relocate then it is best to start looking. Severance will be 1 week for every year you were here. They have changed the policy back in September. Be prepared, start looking , find somewhere where the company cares about the employees and its families.

Three executives have labeled the closing of the SF office as 'speculative'. I believe they open themselves as well as the company up to legal action if they follow through with it.

There was a lot of nepotism in SFO under previous CTO. Glad that new CTO is situated in John's Creek.

Do you think SFO would have a better chance of surviving if it wasnt the most expensive real estate in the USA, wasnt the most pricey labor market and if colleagues showed up before 11am and didn't leave early every day to catch BART (assuming they didn't "work" from home)? Guess we will never know...

the managers and higher ups who know about this for certain have a head start in preparing for job interviews and jumping ship, while their direct reports are kept in the dark and will truly suffer when the time comes. oftentimes, leadership is the first to jump ship. watch yours carefully.

It shouldn’t’ be on us to ‘put the pieces together’. Macys corporate should have the decency to communicate to its employees what’s happening. Making everyone wait despite several leaks and articles is poor form. Shame.

Macy's in sf is closing down. Everyone will either be asked to move to East coast or quit. Apparently they are already talking to Microsoft to take over rest of the building lease.

SFO resources on average cost the company more than JC resources. Add to that the cost of doing business in CA and SF with the taxes and it adds up. JC is already leasing new space..Vendors can be told to move, employees that are sponsored can be told to move or lose their sponsorship. Floors in SF are empty. If you can’t put the pieces together then that’s on you.

I have also heard rumblings on this from some of the contractors working in the Macys SF office. I guess we will have to wait until Feb 5th to know more.

But as I understand, they have not had any employee postings for the last one year in the SF office and have limited the positions only to
Vendors. I am sure this is something they have been planning for a while

SF won’t be closed but downsized. Some people will be offered a transferred. No WFH. Our second choice CTO has made that clear

What are you trying to stir up, OP?

The WWD article states this "The $25 billion Macy’s Inc. is considering closing its San Francisco dot-com offices and relocating the operation to New York or Georgia, sources said Monday."

Note that the article in no way implies the decision is a done deal, and I doubt that you have some special inside source. This site is only as valuable as the veracity of the information. Stop contributing to chaos and misinformation.

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) has no requirements for notice to an employee prior to the termination of his or her job. No matter the reason for the termination, the employer can ask the employee to work for several days, but it is more likely that the day of termination is the employee’s last day.

Your employment with your employer is at-will irrespective of the state.
