Verizon Wireless call January 31st

Everyone getting laid off. Commissions are being removed? Area vp is being replaced? Store closures? What's this important call about?

"Wireline only handles a very small portion of VZW towers across the country...and VZW pays VZ for every circuit (although this may have/be changed/changing recently)."

Actually nothing is free at Verizon or any major company. Budget accountability and costs must be tracked. Local garages pay for fios, set top boxes..ect.

I believe what the poster was getting at was that Verizon wireless network depends on the Verizon core landline fiber network to move traffic into Verizon wireless switching centers and then back out to other cell sites to connect a Verizon Cell-to-Cell call. Many other companies rely on a similar architecture. I am not aware of any wireless back-bone networks being used in any large number here in the Northeast. Probably the most densely populated area in the country. Most cell sites over lap, providing a measure of redundancy should a fiber cable fail to one site. But make no mistake about it, Verizon cell traffic moves through Verizon core network here in the immensely populated Northeast . That is hardly a "small amount". With no wireless back bone link for every cell site, you can say Verizon wireless is dependent upon Verizon core fiber and other companies across the U.S. to provide service. Actuality we are all connected. Verizon is just part of the connectivity servicing a larger communication grid. Verizon wireless does use other providers to connect their Switching centers in an intricate network redundancy scheme but their cell sites are Verizon core fiber.

They are finally explaining to the wireless side how the signal actually gets from customer to tower to customer. ( and all the steps in between ) Wireline.

Wireline only handles a very small portion of VZW towers across the country...and VZW pays VZ for every circuit (although this may have/be changed/changing recently).

I'm not sure why people think VZW received/receives these services for free (as mentioned in another post). I can assure that wireless paid/pays for every circuit...I was involved with recovering credits from VZ any time a circuit dropped below the SLA.
