Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Is the coast clear?

All major layoffs and restructuring are behind us?

It has been dead quiet.

There are two constants at Cisco: re-orgs and layoffs, certainly at the end of each FY.

IT supposedly is going to have a big "reorg", several friends that work there have been preparing themselves and have been told by leadership that big changes are coming

I've love to hear more about those rumors. Q2 earnings call is soon, so whatever is going to happen, it should be soon.

Red badge here and my last day was last Friday. This is badge color discrimination. Is there a way we can sue? No severance pay even for a single day, no medical benefits. I threw out my home wireless router made by Cisco/Linksys. Craaaaaap!!

First, you weren't an employee of Cisco, so how can you sue them? Any severance or benefits would have to come from _your_ employer, otherwise known as a consulting or recruiting firm. Welcome to the world of contracting. IF you had benefits with your firm, you should be eligible for COBRA. I know that I have always received COBRA notifications when my contracts ended, even if I didn't need to use them. I've usually been lucky and been given a heads up that my contract wasn't going to be renewed or was ending earlier than planned, but I've never received severance.

Number one rule of contract work - always keep 6 months or more salary in the bank to get you between contracts for those times when they suddenly end without notice.

You only have yourself to blame. It's the nature of contracting. Doesn't make it fun to experience and I've been in your shoes more than once with sudden, unexpected contract terminations. Cisco isn't the only company that does this. Many managers at Cisco try to give their contractors 2-4 weeks notice that their contract is ending, but some like to, or are forced to, "pull the band-aid off quickly" and let you go that day. I honestly don't know how the "2 weeks pay in lieu of notice" norm works when you're in a state or work for a company that is a "right to work" company/state where either party can terminate employment at any time for any reason.

And just what does a budget / HR policy about terminating you without notice have to do with the quality of a product? Apparently it was good enough for you to buy and use while you worked here, but once you became a bitter ex-worker, suddenly it's "Craaaaaap!!". Time to grow up. Personally, I haven't used a Cisco/Linksys router in 10 yrs as Cisco started cutting costs and made them less reliable but that has nothing to do with HR policies.

Badge colour discrimination?? You must have known the deal when you took the contract. If not, spend some time getting real... if you didn’t successfully negotiate higher pay to account for that risk then that’s your ‘bad’. That goes with contracting, end of...

It's Cisco...the coast is NEVER clear. Badge color is irrelevant. It is a constant cycle of changing business models, expansion and contraction. If you don't like roller-coasters, you are in the wrong place.

Red badge that got cut last week , What makes this even more lovely is that I tried contacting my recruiter to let them know what happened. I guess they already know... being ghosted.
