Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Call centers closing timeline

When are the rest of the call centers closing? Lots of rumors going around and would like some accurate information regarding the trajectory of remaining centers.

Alorica, AFNI are now going HBA..... corporate HBA reps will be rebadge to those companies. Fact not fiction. The rent and electricity Verizon saves with HBA is nothing compared to the cost related to so many call center employees on FMLA, high rate of absences, paying benefits such as healthcare, sick time, vacation pay etc. It makes good business sense to outsource call center jobs.

I was just asked “if there are functions of my job I could not perform as a remote employee” - HQ Operations. Makes me wonder if that’s related to call center closing where I sit.

So what’s still open?

For BGCO:

  • Hanover (probably Safe since it’s the only GCO center)
  • Alpharetta (50/50)
  • West Valley City (50/50)

For Care:

  • Wilmington (wouldn’t be surprised if it closes)
  • Charlotte (legacy Alltel center, could see it going away)
  • Greenville (I feel like this one will be safe for a good while)
  • Columbia/Elgin, SC (I think this one closes)
  • Tampa (I think this one closes)
  • Murfreesboro (I think this one closes)
  • Rolling Meadows (I feel like this one will be safe for a while)
  • El Paso (Definitely Safe, it’s the main bilingual center)
  • Chandler (I think this one closes)

Any centers that I forgot? Also, “closes” could just as easily be “sold to AFNI or Alorica and employees are rebadged”.

It's definitely a matter of when not if. Would expect most/all corporate based centers to close by January 2021.

Even if they close your center, you'll get the option to work from home. Truthfully when they offered the center I was in HBA 3 years ago I was against it. When they closed my center 2 years later and I was left with the decision of having to find another job that would give me equal pay & benefits, as a single mom I decided to try HBA. Best decision I ever made. I don't think I could handle working in an office now. Try not to stress about the what if they close my center, HBA will be offered and it's pretty sweet.

Since these are rumors there is no way to tell you what management will do. This is usually a decision they make at the executive level. All you can do is prepare your resume and make plans to leave of the time comes. This is common place wherever you work.
