Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Relocating HQ

Rumors have continued to circulate that UP plans to eventually relocate, likey within the next 5 years or less. The question is, why wouldn't UP relocate? Why wouldn't they like all the incentives and tax breaks from another state? Why wouldn't they want a city that has more schools and a bigger talent pool? During the last town hall, it was mentioned that offers to relocate are very "compelling". With that, one can safely assume that UP has been approached and have had those discussions with the BOD. Especially if such incentives/tax breaks from another state can help keep UPs cost and operating ratio down. Unless UP states, "we will not relocate", then it's not a matter of "if" they will move, but "when". Their statement "we have no plans to relocate" is a loose statement, just like in the past when they stated "we have no planned layoffs", and then they cut 30% of the workforce.

UP might be bought by another rail road similar to what happened to TD Ameritrade , then it is the other company problem to relocate or not.

OR

UP might have too much in corporate debt with all stock buy backs and other stuff and end up like Enron.
