Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Few seem to know what’s going on...

I met all of my objectives year in year out since 2010.

Surpassed expectations on more objectives than I met.

Does not mean anything.

Few seem to know what’s going on.

Those who do know, they fear reprisal.

So, no one has got your back.

You are on your own.

Many decision makers live in a virtual world; an alternate reality incompatible with humanistic values.

Don’t get me wrong.

Millennials are great.

But if that is all you’ve got, you will miss out on the wisdom acquired over an extended work experience.

Bottom line, as long as upper management stays the same, nothing will change.

I left last year and that was one of the best moves I ever made in my professional career.

I recommend you be ready and look around, and not let the culture of fear and abusive environment dictate what will be decided for you...especially once you >45.

What’s sad is that in every RA, afterward the employees 40+ who are least skilled, most averse to change, end up staying and those who are innovative end up getting shown the door. I’m a millennial and have worked with a few great older staff members, seems they are always the ones at risk of lay-off.

Every quarter that the RA roulette wheel is spun almost ANYONES number can come up.

Top sales people, ace technical superstars. super customer-focused account teams. None were safe and none are now.

1 rating - does not matter.
100% club - does not matter.
Customer loves you - does not matter.

You have to enjoy your IBM job while it lasts... do the least, try to get paid the most, take all your vacation and more, get as much training as possible, update your resume and start looking for a better opportunity... this is the IBM life these days.

Customers no longer matter... it is all about you IBMers.

The Upper echelon of IBM thinks "Watson + Millennial > Wisdom" This led to huge cost savings so it must have been good! They are such smart people in the board it only took them 6 years of declining revenue to realize it wasn't working. It only cost an additional 30+ billion to dig out of the hole they dug with that plan! Such a deal! I can't wait to see what they think up next!
