Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Cisco HR enjoys laying people off

Those sadists in HR enjoy every step of separating employees from Cisco. Was talking to one, and he was laughing about it. Layoffs provide job security for them. Something to do.

Just remember- in no circumstances is HR the employee's friend. Just the opposite. Proceed at your own risk when working with HR. "The People Deal" indeed!

Realigning resources is such BS. I was a top performing Sr. Manager at Cisco for 15 years before getting laid off (as part of 8% company cuts) after literally selling my soul to help grow the company. Included in the layoffs were 4.0 GPA new hires. I am still bitter surprisingly - just last week I threw out all Cisco memorabilia out of my home office and basement and it felt good. I am in a new career now that took me awhile to adapt to but my life is completely different. I work 8 hours a day no nights no weekends. with great people. Cisco was dog eat dog and the company was seriously demographically skewed if you know what I mean. Folks were taking care of their own.

At least I have my blue marbles, one for each for 5 years tenure. Probably a collector's item now.

@kuy+13HUkRs7 The constant layoffs started long before Chuck took over, long before.

Spoken like a young kid who hasn't much real life experience to understand how lame this post is. If you really think anyone laughs at others misery....take a look at yourself bro, your sad. Just sad.

HR laughs at people during the LR meeting, exactly like shown in below gif.

Managing top performers? The company is filled with bureaucrats and used car salesmen.

performance is inconsequential

Unlimited PTO means that NO PTO hours will be credited during aLR, unlike how they used to before this "unlimited" change!

The constant layoffs by Cisco over the last number of years (yes it started with Chuck) is a lazy way to manage the bottom performers like Cisco did for decades. Removing any responsibility for documenting expectations and performance was the start of this new norm.

THIS behavior makes Cisco more like so many other companies (eg the defunct Nortel) and less like the largest start up company we prided ourselves in the last.

HR's job is to protect the employer, there is no doubt about that. But that being said, you have good and bad with anything in business or life, and that applies to HR. Trust me, I have seen much worse in other companies. Cisco HR is far from perfect, but I can tell you about a lot of very good people who work in that organization who carry themselves with a high level of professionalism and even empathy. And even those that may not be all that good, I highly doubt they enjoy LRs, Call it bad bedside manner or whatever. The real issue is Cisco management, whose directives HR carries out. In short, I am saying what while anyone should always exercise discretion with working with any HR team in any company, please dont generalize the people in Cisco HR and demonize them. As I said, I know a lot of really good people there who at the end of their day have to do their jobs.

Nobody enjoys LRs.

There are no angels and demons. They are all humans doing their job and everyone is equally scared or trying to do their job. Don’t victimize or demonize anyone.

I think you are taking a bit of poetic license with your view of HR. I doubt anyone laughs about LRs. There ust be some context around it.
