Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Dont join SPBU

They check your LinkedIn and if you are actively looking for jobs you are on the list.

Since now SP SVP is gone things gonna change. Most of the staff he created was his family and friends and we suspect all of them will leave behind him eventually.

This was long due. There hiring and firing practices are totally based on your relationships with them.

They laid off good networking background engineers and hired data analyst and software engineers who do not want to work in high end routing. False promises made to them based on automation and devops roles.

Most of them are looking to move to other companies.

They hire people and talk buzz just to sound cool but under the table all they want you to do is reload routers multiple times and file bugs.

Bunch of crooks stay away

Another director gone from SPBU. It means a SVP, one Snr Director and one Director in the last couple of months.

Both Sumeet and Anand are gone!! Two of the most toxic in Cisco. However, their friends and family members are still in charge.

Csco is not right place for any position.

I am actively interviewing right now and I interviewed in 2017 after I left cisco.

People outside do not want to see cisco experience unless it's a company who use cisco and needs someone for operations role.

Only 2 3 years in cisco experience is justified not more thn tht.

Experience 1 - startup CEO (non Indian) told me he wont even call Cisco eng for interview but wanted to meet me since I only have 2 years of csco experience.

Experience 2 - I referred my frndz from cisco to my current company. My VP and director were reluctant to hire even after referal.

Experience 3- after layoff last year we interviewed couple of csco impacted engineers for a very easy role in our company. We had to let recruiter know to forward non cisco engineers and gave a pretty excuse

Experience 4 - if u manage to get hired in senior positions after working 5+ years in Cisco. You will be seen as a political person and your referrals means you are getting your tribe to join u

CSCO is not the right place for software developers, this is the output of my experience. So, if you aim to become a great developer and actually LR‘ed by this company, just try to be proud of that and join a better team.

I think it make.sense also to layoff people who already want to leave

Why? If the company is looking to cut costs, why pay someone who wants to leave a severance when you can axe someone else and let the other person leave on their own? You get rid of two people but only pay one severance.

Remember, the reductions are being driven by bean counters looking to cut costs regardless of the impact to the team or company.

All SPBU engineers should combine and complain about the Sr director RK and his family working under him.

I'll echo the OP - I ended up working in SPBU and discovered Will E epitomised the Peter Principle. Definitely a group heading south - they are either trying to catch-up with market inflections that they said would never happen (e.g. decoupling s/w from silicon, open-source, etc) or squeezing revenue from legacy technology acquired 10+ years ago

LinkedIn info is correct.

I got laid off in 2017 from spbu and weeks later my frndz still at cisco asked my manager why I was on LR despite being Amazing performer.

Manager told them I was looking outside anyway.

Later I realized I didn't update my LinkedIn and it was actually saying Actively looking for new opportunities

Just get off LinkedIn or make your profile private and don't allow "unknown people" to connect to you.

@tpb+13I6NHei

LinkedIn info is 100% correct and verified by many engineers on LR.

Also one engineer was hinted on this by a director well wisher.

You should check if you wrote on your LinkedIn tht you are actively looking or not?

I think it make.sense also to layoff people who already want to leave

Surprising, I'm still at the BU even though I've attended interviews and even gone through partial exit process once. Not sure where you got that LinkedIn info from. Agree about the lack of network engineer and pathetic testing, which was why I was trying to escape

What a pity! S.A. had excellent skills on Microsoft Project Plan and Excel, perhaps also PPT.

I can't believe this BU still exists. It has been a dumpster fire for the last 5 years.

Arora is gone, he took time off to "spend quality time with family". Hahahaha, he was LR'ed in polite terms.

Talking about toxic environment....how about IT? I heard that in the last 18 months most of their execs are gone including the CIO, and 2 SVPs, and a bunch of Sr. Directors.

Went to a startup. That org became totally toxic. I think it will be brutal there for the next few months.
