Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

March Layoffs

I’ve seen Optum lay-off speculations and wondering if anyone in the “know” can specify what other roles and/or depts are being impacted? I’ve read that telecommuters are being layed off. Anyone?

Thanks to those that have had the courage to post the facts.

Roughly 45% of UHG employees are remote and don't work at a physical office location. Remote employees save the company a ton of money vs in office employees. I'm surprised this would be a criteria for cutting jobs but stranger things have happened.

@ysc+13JIAhsa in the last year or so, I've been told by my direct leadership and above as well that everyone needs to come into the office. At first they said it was just because we had a remodel. But I've also been told by Sr directors that are friends of mine that telecommuters were being eliminated at specific grade levels. There were a good number of telecommuters in Optum. Many were let go in the previous RIF rounds. The ones that are left that don't have an office closeby are very worried for their jobs.

There are conflicting answers here- “no more telecommuters” and “telecommuters are being targeted”. Which is it? We won’t know until next week and all the speculation, conjecture here is only fueling anxiety. Please only answer if you really do know. If you’re only stating your opinion or what you’ve heard in gossip circles, please mention that and explain why you have the opinion you do.

Telecommuters are being targeted. October 2 was the largest layoff of telecommuters. No department at UnitedHealthcare or Optum are safe. Update your resume but keep your job if you are tenured because your severance can be up to 26 weeks. If you are new employee I would advise to continue working at the company but apply outside get out of this company as they are the devil.

All the jobs are going to the Philippines, Ireland and India. Go look at the internal job site and you can see all the jobs offshore.
