Thread regarding IBM layoffs

2020 Checkpoint Goals meeting = layoff meeting?

My colleague has a meeting Monday with her manager to review her 2020 Checkpoint goals - she believes this is her RA notification call - Thoughts?

They won't dump her at a Checkpoint meeting. Even IBM is not that devious. If she's in GTS, though, she could well be on the stacked ranking list and get cut in the coming weeks/months.

Based on my experiences, the manager won't tip their hand whatsoever as to her future at this meeting. Even if she were to be laid off tomorrow, they won't give her even a hint.

Yes, she works in GTS.

Tell her to relax and drink some Kool-Aid. As a former IBM employee I can attest that life is infinitely better without the stress of working in a soul-crushing environment. Everything will turn out fine. :-)

Not likely.

However, you can have a Checkpoint meeting on Monday and think everything is OK, then have a mandatory half hour meeting slammed on your calendar on Tuesday morning to hear the canned RA speech.

How could we know?

Your friend is best positioned to know: context is important. Does she work for GTS? Does she play politics well? etc

After all, what can she do? Monday is not far away.

Best thing is to leave IBM before they let you go!

They generally do not do it like that, 10 years ago it was meeting, now it is a phone call that states, there is a resource action today and I am sorry to say you are affected by it . You can take the rest of the day off if you want . More details to follow ,
