Can anyone comment on severance from HCL Canada yet? Trying to understand if they are offering more favorable than the minimum one week per year. The employment contract we signed last March seems pretty specific about protecting HCL from anything more than minimum.

There have been a few departments in saint john that received their package in the last month or so and were surprised as it was pretty good. Most I have talked to received about 3 weeks per year. Which is much better than NB labor law requires.
It differs by country due to in country laws. But know this, in the US they most definitely have been known to short people per state requirements. Employees in California for one. Know your state laws and validate you have received everything you are entitled to.
You should see the severance in Europe. I believe it's 3 weeks per year? And I don't believe there's a cap on it. (Someone from Europe correct me if I'm wrong)
Can you imagine getting 30 weeks for 10 years? Or 60 weeks for 20 years?
No wonder the majority of layoffs have been in the US.
You complaining about one week per year? The US is a max of 12 weeks. I was laid off after 43 years and got 12 weeks.
What exactly do you consider favorable? sheesh
Guys, please, retain the services of an employment lawyer when you are presented with an offer before you sign. The cost of the service is very minimal and is almost never a regret. They will make sure you aren't taken advantage of. Too many people have been let go from companies with less than they could have attained.
Its a quick call and a very reassuring felling.
They will honour the minimum that is legally required. Prepare to sue.

They should honor the years of service, age, and current role in the package?
