Salary Cuts

Has anyone heard about Store Manager pay being cut if you are transferred to a lower volume store. I have a store manager friend who went to a store doing about 10k less in sales and his pay was cut 3%. Nobody bothered to even tell him. He didn’t know about until he saw his check and realized it. He asked his DL who told him there is a pay cap at every store. When asked by the manager was he wasn’t informed of this, all the DL could say was pretty much “Oops, me bad”. I am concerned because I was asked to go to a lower store which is a cleanup project and not in a nice area.

I know of SM’s who have gotten a raise for going to higher volume so it makes sense that going lower volume might result in a decrease, then again one could argue that bonus potential should be the only thing affected from shifting store volumes. Regardless, I would be sure as hell to make sure that the SM knew of any pay decrease before putting anything through. It’s foolish to think one wouldn’t notice and question a pay decrease they didn’t see coming. Hell, even if I was demoted I would expect to be told what to expect in terms of compensation even if I never asked.

It is true about the max pay per store, but I was not aware they could cut base pay if you were in higher volume store and moved to lower. Pretty messed up.

Exactly. I have been a SM for 16 years with a good track record. Regional Paragon 2x. All evaluations ME and higher. My friend was also a Paragon winner 2x. DL claims individual stores now have max pay for store managers and if are transferred to a lower volume store, then your pay can be cut.

Unlikely. CVS does a LOT wrong, but they generally don't screw around with Base Pay.

I had a Cashier once when I was an Asst Manager who made more than me (and everyone else in the store but the Manager and PiC) because she transferred from New York City.

There's really no upside to cutting base pay. 10/yr for a good SM with a track record of performance is a lot better than rolling the dice on a SMiT who may or may not last the year.
