Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Layoffs postponed until?

Littleton Band 10 here -
Was told by a Band C that optics of announcing large layoff soon after Ginny announced retirement were deemed horrible.

Corporate decided to delay - she did not know if delay was until end of March or May.

I will keep digging.

People are confusing the 30-90. It means 30 day's pay with 90 days notice, in the US.

Mitch, please read the posts on how IBM has handled this before and get your resume ready.

@2kod - agree! The stock just hit a 52 week low. Volatility is too high driven by Coronavirus and is the perfect scapegoat for poor performance now. RA news would go unnoticed and will not move the stock. Better to wait for stability and positive virus news. Market will rally. Focus will shift. Then juice the stock with RA news.

I was outsourced from AT&T to IBM with the GTS group with a year contract. Wonder if they are going to release us after the one year contract is up?

The market is so volatile right now nobody knows what would happen.

@2kod – Disagree. Historically, RAs have given the stock price a bump.

As always, follow the money.

It’s all about the stock price. Laying off right now would sink it even more, they’re just waiting for the right time in the market.

Must depend on country, in Europe voluntary candidates got asked two weeks ago, they had two two weeks to think it over. Closure still end q1.

I have heard the same 30 days paid with 90 days severance for North America from a reliable source as well.

The 30-90 employee/severance is a North America Statement.
If anyone has knowledge to confirm or dispute this in North America - please let us know.
Thanks

@gjv+ Yep, and they spread the layoffs out just enough to keep from having to report under WARN laws.

Yeah in GTS I have not seen anyone receive 90 days severance pay, only 30 days all on 1 check.

In sept it was one month sev. Then some bogus training that without actual experience will get you no where.

GTS Europe redundancies go out this week and next week. Across all countries.

I am pretty sure they could lay people off on March 31st and the charge off would still reflect gains in the first quarter. Even though people would still be employed going into the second.

OK GTS. We have seen your future and it lies with InfoSys

Hey Littleton folk, just up the road is RH. You could always go there but they're laying off too (not today but recent months since the close of merger). Its spotty though.

it is a shame they do not ask for volunteers, I have 20 years, no where near retirement, but if they gave a little better package and ask for volunteers I would take it just to get out with something while I can. Would also save someone else to keep job a little longer .

I was told it is a 30-90 situation by a FLM who has to make cuts.
That would be decent unless you are a 20+ year veteran.

IBM never publicly announce layoffs anymore. Instead they may make vague statements like as part of our transformation we are always making changes and remix our workforce skills.

If its a 30-90 (30 days paid, 90 severance) then you could go as late as late May and still make the goal of getting all the costs done in 2Q and make 3Q/4Q look good.
