Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

now that my retirement is circling the stock market drain

the company is going to have to do a lot better than just super IPP . It's going to take about three years pay to get me off the payroll before 67.

@3nig+13T9fTSo: The lump sums are perfectly safe, they just stay there until people retire and take them. Since the Fed will most likely cut rates again, the lump sums will most likely go up. It’s a pity you aren’t eligible for anything and have no understanding of how it works.

How are those "millions" doing now? Haha...

His retirement is circling the drain because he just opened his 401k last year at the young age of 48. All the union "millionaires" are financial wizards like him.

If your "retirement is circling the stock market drain", then you invested poorly.
Market was up nearly 40% the last 3yrs... most people moved some of those "winnings" into more conservative funds by now. Either the MM fund, or one of the Bond funds... The bond funds are UP over 7% YTD... (they go up when rates go down) MM Fund is not up much, but anything in it hasn't lost a penny. VZ stock is down, but only about 1/2 of what the rest of the market is down, and still paying over 4% DIV. Also when the market is down like it is now, consider a in plan Roth conversion... Enjoy Tax FREE earnings (you missed the 1st time around) when the market eventually rebounds, and likely pay a lower tax rate than if either Biden or Bernie somehow manage to get elected. Or you can just sit and complain about it on here...

LOL!! If you don’t like union associates it’s because you don’t work with any. You only know they’ have better jobs than you.
If a million isn’t enough for anything, imagine how little you are going to have to sc-ape by on.
You’re a joke. I’m sure you’re a very “popular” guy at work and everyone likes you, LOL!!!

If you are that close to retirement, why would you have so much wrapped up in equities?

Some people don’t seem to believe that Union members are millionaires. Truth is, in many cases we are. Use your head, if a lump sum is in the 700K range, it’s not very hard to have an additional 300K in the 401K. If a Union member is here for 25-30 years I don’t see how they wouldn’t have at least $1M.

Your Lump sum will grow , the down market will help. Then you can buy low and watch your 401k / ira grow.

Hey now, I am union and not a millionaire. Actually I live paycheck to paycheck. Oh wait, sorry the truth is not for this board.
