Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Sinking ship

I keep hearing automation is the reason for job cuts but from what I see, much of the automation isn’t working BUT mgt already made the cuts so many areas are working long days ..... trying to get their bread crumb & hoping it keeps their name of next rounds cuts. It won’t. Exec manager doesn’t know how to do anything to increase revenue. Only cut staff, move jobs to India, & but back stock.

And yes.... I know I can leave- I, like many are looking for the right time & opportunity. I the meantime it’s sickening to see how people are being treated.

The department I work in was supposed to have been shifting toward AI-driven automation by now. BNY has even purchased licenses for a third party platform where you can build your adversarial neural networks and whatnot. The problem is, BNY hasn't even brought their current technology to within the last 5 years of relevancy. Some of it barely functions in its current form and needs to be completely rebuilt.

Hiring "data scientists" and PhDs to built neural networks is putting the cart far ahead of the horse. It's like buying your 15 year old a Lamborghini before they've learned to keep the family Civic on the road.

We all understand the need for automation and displacements to be competitive. We’ve seen really large displacements for 3+ years and counting but has anything of significance really been automated?
I keep thinking that there will be announcements from technology or at least from the 2 year old dedicated Digital team. If good things are happening wouldn’t somebody be sharing the news

Get out! I worked for these jerks for less than 3 years and got laid off in 2017 knowing full well even then that they were an awful company (my window for retirement was 5 years so I thought I could outlast a lay-off). I had to take an early retirement because they canned me at 63 and I couldn’t get another job as a programmer. I would have loved to sue for age discrimination( I had evidence from statements they made after I left). A lawyer said it wasn’t worth it, but to take the severance and forget about it (they’ve had several lawsuits in this issue already).

BNY is no different than any other bank. They’re all lead by imbeciles. Best to leave banking if you’re to leave for greener pastures.
