Working from home

How come we haven’t been told to work from home company wide due to the virus yet? With some many older people in the office, company should protect their employees from the virus spreading instead of waiting for something to happen first. I know united dont care much about their employees, but at least follow what other companies are doing.

We got not 1 but 2 emails tonight telling us if you are assigned to an office location then you are expected to be in the office, even if you are able to work from home. It doesn’t matter that person to person transmission is happening or that schools are closed and gatherings of less than 250/100/50 are recommended. My office is all mobile - no cube walls, shared desks, shared chairs, shared keyboards and people sitting 2 feet away. How are we supposed to practice social distancing and not get sick?

I dont think its safe for people in india to work from home, too many people would have access to members information and I dont trust them. Let them stay home and bring the work back to the us where it belongs

I understand my site was trying to close however was told no by corporate. All the schools in our county have closed for 14 days due to positive coronavirus tests. They have declared a State and County state of emergency. The state said no gatherings larger than 500 people, the county said no gatherings larger than 50 people. We have not been permitted to work from home as of yet even when high risk individuals have asked. Friday we were sent home with additional equipment and I understand the call center employees have been asked if they have internet and USB headsets at home.

I’m a top performing employee so I do whatever is necessary to get the job done and continue to climb the ladder. It’s times like this we need to be exceptional employees, and it’s why I’m doing so well. Let’s all band together and get back to work and stop talking about it.

UHG for the past couple of weekends have been building out VPN towers to accommodate the bandwidth it will take when and if employees are sent home. Testing started last week with whole departments sent home to test the new infrastructure. The newest VPN tower was spun up this weekend. Now I know it’s easy for me to say this since I have been WFH for years. But if I was a manager and all my employees had laptops I would probably tell them to work from home and not really wait to hear from Mr Wichmann to give the go ahead. Or just ask if you can work from home

India does have the ability to work from home. They are not a 3rd world country with people living in huts. Not all people however have the same connections. It would be like the difference between rural and urban. We work with a team and much of them have been working from their homes.
To increase network traffic coming from outside of the internal network, United had to I am sure do some work to allow more and more people to work from home, so give them some time to get that in place.
This whole virus is complete insanity. People give examples of someone with chemo destroyed immune system. It is peak flu season, any member of a family can be carriers of that and have incredible consequences. I do not intend on changing my behavior in any fashion. During this time of year I always practice good self cares. I get enough sleep, I drink lots of fluids to stay hydrated. I keep myself and my home clean to prevent the spread of germs. I take extra b12 and try to still get as many veggies in my diet as possible. I go outside and get sunlight and much as I can in the cold winter where I live. But most of all I laugh a lot. I reach out to friends and family so I feel connected. I do not let my job ruin my happiness. Your thoughts control your reality and fear has the most impact on your health over any other disease.
If it is your time to go or anyone else's, it is predetermined. Live your life you have to your best and fullest

I was told by a Manila worker that their President has ordered a lockdown but they have neither the phones nor laptops needed to work from home.

I think it depends on the dept. I work in E&I and already work at home, but we all were told today that if anyone does not feel comfortable going to any of the offices, they can work from home

Most resources in India cannot work from home. The country does not have the infrastructure to support stable internet connectivity. That’s why they work different shifts in the same building. Those that try to work from home have terrible connectivity and it takes 5 times longer to get thru a meeting, considering the number of drops.

working with teams from india in the past, i hear about their commute to work. Being curious, do our offshore colleagues have the ability to telecommute? this could get interesting.

Don’t be surprised if the person doing your interview elsewhere feels your pain. That’s because lots of them have been treated like c-ap when they worked at UNH. To upper management who have been accumulating UNH shares on the open market, how’s that working out?

Closing travel from Europe is in response to China residents who traveled to Italy and Australia. That's how CoV 19 was spread to Europe.

Whitewater and 9700 were deep cleaned in the middle of the night. Most managers/departments at UHC corporate have told their employees to work from home. Stay woke everyone, the big whigs do not give a single sh– about any one of you

UHG Let go of telecommuters yet the trend now and probably longer term will be more work from home. They are always behind the curve because they are a company run by imbeciles.

Working for UHC for over 6 years and being tossed out by a bad script because I don't fit the business model. If you believe that your positions are safe, then look again. UHG lost big in the stock market today. Where do you think that they will recover those losses? I know that infectious diseases are not to be taken lightly. The best practices are to stay at home if you are sick and don't infect others.

I know someone that works at Aetna and they told their employees yesterday they are being sent home. Guess like always UHC does not really value their employees like they state. And for people who are saying we are panicking for nothing - try living with someone undergoing chemo and then come talk to me!!

Get your heads out of the sand. The virus will run its course like most viruses do. Your best protection is to practice good hygiene measures and stay at home when you are ill. Coming to work with a cold or flu virus puts everyone at risk. BTW, there have been only 39 deaths from CoV19 and the flu has k–led over 30,000. Put that in your pipes and smoke it.

The Under 60 response is extremely STUPID, we are closing travel from Europe for God's sake. The biggest healthcare company in the world should be telling people to stay home at this time. "Young" people can still carry the virus home people..... to their "OLD" parents.... OMG, get real UHC

Anyone any age with certain health conditions is at a higher risk. Anyone can be a carrier and inadvertently pass it to someone at greater risk. The company should allow all to work from home.

If you are under 60, then there is little risk for you with the CoV which is a SARS CoV. If you are over 60 with chronic illnesses like cancer, lung disease, diabetes, or heart disease, then this is the greatest threat. Panic does nothing in a pandemic; pandemic as it is worldwide and on more than two continents. Just remember that it started in China just like the H1N1 in 2009. The best thing is to stay home if you are ill and wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and warm water.

It's not an epidemic. But if you are that worried - when you leave take all the hand sanitizer you can carry AND all the TP.

PDO got a email urgent email a few days ago where we had to respond if we have internet at home for work at home capability. We had to respond by the 12th. It didn’t say why but thinking it must be because of the virus.

Amazon and Microsoft also are having their entire US based workforce telecommuting for now.

Amazon stopped all non-emergent domestic business travel as well. My bet is that UHG does the same with travel restrictions by next Monday the 16th. I travel every week for UHG so that will give me some time at home!

Google just told all their North American employees to work from home. It would be the right thing for a HEALTH CARE ORGANIZATION to do, you know, “improving lives” and all that. I think everyone should just say they are sick.
