Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

"Our #1 priority is employee health"

Said CEO. Next day, to stay at home with kids, must have official evidence kids school closed and no other option.

Well known infected people are under estimated. But yet no one given any option to work from home if at risk, over age 60, have pre existing conditions, have relatives that are elderly that they must care for and yet go to work to transmit covid-19 to them, etc as highly recommended by the CDC.

So, in opposition to experts, company says go to work.

We'll wait until there's a case at a site. By then the incubation period will have exposed several hundreds to the deadly virus to older people.

If they care about employee health why is everyone still expected to remain in an open setting, close quarters, among coughing and sneezing people who want to save their limited sick time?

So much of the work obviously can be performed off site, as demonstrated by thousands in India, Brno, China, Mexico, Puerto Rico, etc.

So what's the real reason to keep everyone in the closed, recirculating air, narrow aisled structure where 6ft social distancing is impossible?

Events cancelling, schools closing, community college sites closed, universities closed, even Luke event that's outside cancelled. Still, keep going to a confined work place where 2000+ people share the same air.

Let's just ignore science, CDC, experts, you know the people who's core competency is health and who's job it is to prevent the spread of this deadly virus.

If we were their priority then why do we not have any hand sanitizer in Clearwater? Your forcing people to come in and risk their lives to build your product and you do nothing for them. other than hang some posters in the dirty bathrooms telling us how to wash our hands. Your newsletter says you are searching the world for sanitizer? It is even on the news that local breweries are now making sanitizer since bars are closing up. It would not appear you are not looking very hard beyond whatever company is on your old list of suppliers. I think whomever gets sick because of this should seek a lawyer. or even open a class action against Honeywell.

I remember the good old days when people were the company's greatest asset. And it actually felt that way. People cared, and the company cared. That's been long gone for several years.

What a joke about employees being Honeywell’s first priority! Since when?!

Twitter account for Honeywell public shaming is officially up @honeyweller2 ! Remember to tag @Honeywell, your local government, and local news network for most damage, I mean, exposure... most of this thread would be great to put on Twitter. Honeywell sure doesn’t care about its employees, but you know what it does care about? Its stock price and public opinion. At least enough to address with a more proactive public response. The goal would be to collectively force its hand.

Thank you, OP, for your spot on post summarizing what so many of us are feeling. Instead of being at the forefront of American corporations in responding to this crisis - our leadership will wait until it’s a government mandate. It’s appalling and irresponsible to NOT insist that telecommuting be the “new norm” in the midst of this public health emergency.

OP post quote from CEO Dave:
"Said CEO. Next day, to stay at home with kids, must have official evidence kids school closed and no other option."
Arizona has closed the schools as of Sunday March 15th. (from AZFAMILY newq website)
Governor Doug Ducey and State Superintendent Kathy Hoffman jointly announced the closure of all Arizona schools from Monday, March 16, 2020 through Friday, March 27, 2020.
An internet search shows about 25 states have already closed all schools or will in the next several days.

RIF'd several months ago because I refused, as a senior manager, to go into the office when I had worked from home for over a decade. I cannot believe Honeywell has not reversed the policy for the health of employees during Covid-19(?). The hot cubes are a germ pit. Executive management has had no respect for employees after Cote left. Pretty happy I got my package and sold my HON stock.

This is irresponsible by Honeywell. Even JPL, Raytheon and many others are asking people to work from home. Intel in OR has mandated it. You won't find me working from the virus incubation nest this week. Honeywell is at risk of a law suit, no doubt. Ridiculous !

  • States closing restaurants and bars.
  • CEO of this company: Sit in your chair, spread without symptoms for up to 14 days, we cant he held liable and employees can't prove where they got it from, who cares what experts say, who cares that you can do you job away from your chair like India does for us,...

What company "experts" are ignorant about:

"New studies in several countries and a large coronavirus outbreak in Massachusetts bring into question reassuring assertions by US officials about the way the novel virus spreads.

These officials have emphasized that the virus is spread mainly by people who are already showing symptoms, such as fever, cough or difficulty breathing. If that's true, it's good news, since people who are obviously ill can be identified and isolated, making it easier to control an outbreak.

But it appears that a Massachusetts coronavirus cluster with at least 82 cases was started by people who were not yet showing symptoms, and more than half a dozen studies have shown that people without symptoms are causing substantial amounts of infection."

With some schools remaining open, the young act as carriers to bring the virus into employees homes. Those employees then bring it freely into the workplace, spreading it without symptoms showing.

Now it's said covid-19 is expected to continue infecting thru September.

Just imagining how many will end up sick or worse from sites staying open and mandating employees to risk health and safety by having to physically be present when 80% of software positions work can be easily done remotely.

They are id–ts! I’m going to be wfh, not risking it. I can do all of my work from home. How do you discourage face to face meetings but still want people to just sit in the building?

All schools, events, other companies shut down around us. Not risking my health to sit in a desk in their infected building.

Rumors flying that someone in the MP building has already been exposed. Stay home people!

Frankly this is outrageously irresponsible behavior from management. They should already be encouraging employees (especially the high risk population) to wfh where possible and not waiting for the inevitable. They are putting not only employees at risk, but also the larger communities. Due to the incubation time, it is not going to be one employee that will be infected it will be is a cluster of cases in the workplace and extending outward. I suspect we will see some new recommendations in the coming week.

#1 priority is making Q1 look good for wall street. Q2 is gonna be brutal. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that air travel declining and flight restrictions on a global level are a huge blow to the aerospace industry. If you believe things will go back to normal in a few weeks, good luck! All aero employees should prepare NOW for furloughs and layoffs.

Make your case to your manager and HR for temporary approval to work from home during this national emergency. If DaveC was still running the show, you probably would be denied without explanation. Perhaps now they will start granting exceptions on a as needed basis now that it has been declared a national emergency. Don't expect any change in policy until the number of cases of infected in your area start to rise dramatically, or if a fellow coworker has tested positive at your site.
