Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

If you were forced to give BE’s

If you were forced to give BE’s, let HR know. I talked to HR on another matter and mentioned this to her and she said ratings are your managers discretion. HR is clearly not aware of what is going on. Obviously everyone is doing what their managers are “asking” us to do because they are scared. This violates code of conduct. Also don’t be scared if do raise the issue, it’s confidential and if your manager even suspects you and they retaliate boy they would be in for one. Google retaliation and when HR follows up with you, they mention the retaliation policy.

If you were threatened in any case and forced to rate BE (it’s confidential and if they retaliate, you have a good case), go to mysource > hr & personal > MyHR > create a request > employee relations > employee grievance.

Attach any emails you have.

They actually don’t need your signature, I didn’t sign the fake BE, instead I put my detailed comments...was separated in 6 months after 20+ years of service and very good performance record

Of course HR will say they aren’t aware... why would they admit it?

I raised a Grievance to HR on four serious counts - from breach of contract, to bullying, to retaliation, to unlawful dismissal. On each count a law suit could have followed. I had my lawyer contact BNYM directly to warn this is serious. The end result is all the same - HR will lie to cover up, nothing happened to the 4 layers of management in the know, they all closed rank to protect my manager and I had to leave with package. IF you EVER go to HR you must be prepared to lose your job, because that is the end result of whatever grievance you have with the company. They pay you, you leave quietly, and it gets brushed under the carpet. No, I was EE and AE for a decade, so no performance issues. Sh– just happens when your manager doesn't like you.

Humiliation is what one cannot stand in getting a BE - this happens secretly and for the affected person this causes great hurt to the self respect.

I met the guy who had more than 30 years of service and who was as you all may understand separated with BE couple of years back...he said to me “ Financially I am fine, but why after all these years of hard work and good reviews I was humiliated? “

Folks, complaining makes case even worst, manager’s manager is the one who decides, so there is no point fighting for. There is only 2 options left for you - either find job and quit or loose self-respect.

As a recepient of a BE, this summer, when my whole team got a BE, I called HR to ask if there is precedent here, the answer I got from HR was to report it to my managers manager. I did my due diligence and sat down with him. The very first thing he said to me when I sat down was " I want to let you know, I fully support ______."

So, yes, you can report, you can ask questions, but HR cannot do a thing. This is a management issue ..as are most things here. Poor processes, poor communication, poor morale, poor culture...poor company. I'm desparately waiting for my layoff. It's got to be coming, and I can't wait. How they handle layoffs is quite honestly cruel. People who have never received such ratings before, it turns their world upside down. Makes them question themselves and brings on anxiety. ...as if there isn't enough of that in our lives already. It's a means to justify their ends. Not a justification of your worth. It's truly cruel. I hope people report this on Glassdoor and Indeed for future prospects to review before taking a position here. To invest so much time and effort only to be treated in such a mnner is deplorable. At least hopefully some lives can be saved before going down the path here. A path to nowhere. Your only out, is to either find a new job, or try waiting on severance. How long can you put up with the wait?

Code of conduct doesn't apply to HR. They don't even enforce it legal does. HR are just their spokespeople.

HR lies

Don’t forget, a manager’s manager approves the rating. I am a manager. My manager said there was a quota and I should pick a person. I said, especially after layoffs, my people all working hard, they should all be exceeds. She said, that won’t happen, in this culture “achieves” is a big deal. I could not choose, so she chose for me and even had the meeting.

I don’t think HR cares. An HR rep comes to our meetings and reminds us of BE. They know there is a quota, they just don’t admit it.

Nonsense. There’s a reason the head of HR is a lawyer.
