Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

What would it take to make amends?

If Union Pacific was to say, “sorry, we messed up and listened to the wrong people. We should have been listening to you all all along.” What would it take for you to enjoy working here again, or what would it take for you to come back?

While the railroad retirement and bonuses would be nice, I’ve grown accustomed to being appreciated and would have a hard time being treated poorly again. It’s also the idea of selling my soul to a devil that screwed me once and swallowing my pride and self worth for a buck. Kind of like going back to a girlfriend where the intimacy was great, but she treated you badly and kicked you out once before.

UP has been good for my family and we’ve had a good life. No complaints from me. Life has been good. Made some sacrifices along the way but it was always worth it. Decent roof over our heads, decent food on the table, decent clothes on our backs and the kids have gotten a good education. No regrets.

Clean house completely from the board, ceo, cmo, coo, cfo, and anyone that helped implement the PSR Ponzi scheme. offer a respectable contract with a pay raise of at least 25% over 4 years, retroactive back pay for the duration of time worked out of contract, healthcare back to free if not a reasonable cost not to exceed $200 a month, 401k match up to a certain percentage, vacation increases to top out at 6 weeks with 4 personal days and sick time that maxes out at 2 weeks (this is going to be unpopular but you have to provide a doctors note), and allow all federally observed holidays. Get rid of the attendance policy and replace it with something reasonable. Bring back employees that are desperately needed to get the company running normally. Also trim the fat of all the redundant manager positions and streamline the whole non agreement tier to something that allows for better communication from the bottom people like labors to the top executive officers. Stop all layoffs and reopen locations shutdown that are needed to keep the company flowing without issues.

Realistically:
Announce to all employees that this lay-off frenzy is over. Put peoples minds at rest.
Hire back some employees where needed if possible.
Bring back safety feeds and other morale booster initiatives.
That’s a start but the rest takes time.

I'm sorry but there's really no way straightforward answer to that. The UP has been laying people off and bragging about how well the company is doing. There may be some people who could probably be bought, but I'm not for sale. The hardships this company has caused is worth more than just money. Cars, homes, marriages, actual lives, and just the ability to afford to live to me can't be bought. So in other words, that's a bad question to be asking
