Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

What is going on at rk dixon?

People are leaving the IT department at rk dixon. Last week our security director and a salesperson left and we found out this week that the IT director is leaving. Rumor has it that there are several others looking to leave rk dixon. I thought IT was supposed to be a safe place to be. What do they know that the rest of us don’t?

@4vmi+13frMoKn: sorry, I thought the conversation was around the IT support XBS uses for their own internal systems and applications. That portion will be migrated to XDX (and likely offshored to HCL or Wipro)

For the IT support being provided by XBS to external customers, I haven't seen a definite answer but like everything else there are discussions about centralizing that service too.

@4dqj+13frMoKn Thanks for the insight. I work for one of the Cores that has IT. There were only three of us to begin with, but Xerox states they are rolling out "IT", as in IT managed services out to all the XBS cores. This process started in Q3 of last year, I think. So in terms of managing the IT support of all these new customers we'll be getting... who will be supporting them? The XBS local IT or XDX?

@2qkh+13frMoKn:

Individual XBS branches or Cores will not be doing their own IT. All of it will be shifted to the Xerox IT organization known as XDX (the old XIM). Currently they are based out of Webster for the US, but the site is being moved to a new facility in Raleigh North Carolina. Only a small handful of the Webster IT team will move to Raleigh, mainly to get that site up and running and pass on critical SME knowledge. The rest will be sourced in Raleigh and/or moved offshore to HCL or Wipro.

Most of the XBS branches and Cores all use the same systems and applications, so centralizing the IT support is not as hard as many people think it is. I say that because some think it won't happen, but it will and they should be ready for it.

This means at least two things. Current XBS IT resources will lose their jobs. And after that, the level of support/response you get from Xerox IT will probably be much worse than you're getting now with your own local staff.

Had nothing to do with loyalty. Anyone will tell you that you need to do what's in the best interest for you and family (if applicable). Most of you would have left if a similar situation presented itself. That is, of course, unless you're related to the upper level.

Our security director was stolen by a competitor. I guess loyalty doesn’t mean much to some people. RK Dixon is doing great.

@2yhu+13frMoKn - can you provide some clarity? When you say IT will be centralized, what does that mean for our IT staff here at our XBS core? We have about 25 people here in IT; sales, service, support. When you say "they are all being let go" do you mean Webster, or all IT positions at XBS cores?

IT will be centralized, as will all “back office” functions. That was communicated. But centralized doesn’t mean Corp IT in Webster, they are all being let go with the exception of a few going to North Carolina. Actual IT will be offshore Wipro with other providers (HCL, Verizon, etc) doing specialized portions. Many will relocate to find themselves laid off in 366 days.

Is RKD aligned to COTG?

All cores aligned to COTG and COTG itself are presently going through cuts. The next big wave of cuts are in March.

There were plenty of great people who left RKD... not just in IT, either. Yes, some big salaries left, but let’s not forgot our admin people who were all outsourced. They helped make RKD great and have been with us long before we even had an IT department. I realize many people see those admin jobs as disposable, but they were just as important as the people in our IT department.

It’s troublesome to me that people weren’t all up in arms about many of the other departures, but now that an IT director leaves... now you’re concerned? Have you not seen what’s been happening for the past year?

This is going to happen at all XBS and Xerox Direct Engineering. I work for a ASP, and I see the Xerox local Manager from time to time. We had lunch last week and relayed to me that March 1 there will be a new wave of cuts. Anyone related to IT will more than likely go, as they are outsourcing it to HCL. Very few will remain in Rochester. All FMAudit personnel will now go to HCL in Manila. XBS cores with FSMs and DOS are not recognized as "official" Xerox titles either. Any technician under 5 calls perday is on the block too.

My recommendation is keep close to where your contacts are going and follow suit. Look to ASP Dealers.

Well HCL was at your site recently so they know more job loss coming, has your work started trznsitioning off shore yet?

I’m guessing that this mass exodus is happening at many of the XBS cores. If that many people are leaving, it’s likely because they don’t see a future there.

I’ll be giving my notice soon. Things in IT at RK have got really bad the last year. We never see our VP. We keep getting told that numbers are up and everything is great but we don’t get raises and the bonuses are a joke. It isn’t worth it anymore. I don’t want to wait around and watch this ship sink. These people were smart to get out.

XBS will be using Xerox HR. It will be the same with IT.

Why would you think IT is a safe place to be? Because Xerox said so?

My guess would be that they got a heads up for some bad news. Or preemptively reducing head count before xerox does it for them.
