Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Leadership, what leadership?

Some of the store managers/managers (especially those who are fixtures for too long without results) have been hanging on for too long while the associates work themselves to death. Nothing is ever good enough especially when these same store managers just slide under the radar without being detected. If they are productive or successful they forget its those hard working employees who propel them to succeed. However, when the wrath of corporate comes down who gets the blame, these faithful employees. People have worked and given the company everything they have. Unfortunately , in return they are thrown to the rocks. These managers do not coach unless there are corporate visits, but employees are expected to produce. They should go and not the employees. Why is it the associates are the ones always affected and no one looks at the head of the stream.
It is not only failure in job security, but the company fails to protect employees on all levels. Job security, workplace accidents you name it. Every man for themselves and their friends if you sell your soul and decide to be the stores story teller. They have all become complicit and need training in leadership!
What is a great leadership?
Great leaders find the balance between business foresight, performance and character. They have vision, courage, integrity, humility and focus along with the ability to plan strategically and catalyze cooperation amongst their team.
The best qualities of good leaders are:

  1. Vision
  2. Courage
  3. Integrity
  4. Humility
  5. Strategic planning
  6. Focus
  7. Cooperation

and in addition Honesty and Loyalty

This is an excellent post from @qky+13fdOfK2, I moved it to the top so more people could see it. I hope the OP doesn't mind.

This is just morally wrong!
Okay I can see the writing on the wall ..... their busting up the “good ol boys n girls club” throughout Macy’s but, it’s impacting thousands of employees that could not and would not be a part of the “good ‘ol boys n girls club!!” And honestly under the last 18 months the “HomeDepot destroyer” has been building up his own good old boys n girls club throughout Macy’s. Two wrongs don’t make a right and we’re all being adversely affected by these foolish decisions. It’s going to take the right person to bring a good lawsuit against this company and then they’ll have a valid reason to shut down stores and close entire locations!!

Now I'm just making some wild assumptions but the last 2 posters I see with a couple of possibilities:

1) You are on the hit list of next layoff. Turn down your volume.
2) You are both future managers at Macy's.

@2fpo+13hhJAi6- well said from experience. There would be a walk thru and nothing about them were honest. They would choose which associates would go to a chat if there was one. Everything discussed would be relayed back to the ST who was just horrific. The associates would all clam up because if they ever discuss a topic which was considered too sensitive they would get the wrath of the SM. No one should cross her or else. As you are being written up know your rights, take notes and ask questions. They must be held accountable for these behaviors. Going on too long.

That’s for that reply for me calling them out. Yes. I got tired of breaking my back watching everything being mismanaged and turning into a disaster while I try to make a pay check from this circus. It frustrates me so bad I even told the Gm then it turned into myself being written up for other silly reasons. So it seems like. This to me. The associates bust their butts. While your above “ manager “ basically lies that everything is ok to her manager (gm) who then lies to corporate that everything is great. A great example of this and I know this happens in every store , is when they do a corporate walk thru. All the “ managers “ get on associates to windex everything , fix this and that. Get everything straight. For a walk thru that last 2 hours ? It’s a big put on. That isn’t how the store is run when corporate is around. It’s shine them shoes time for the big ole wall thru ! So you see where the problem lies. It’s not the truth of what’s really happening. I should point everyone was sad to see that manager go except me. I saw right threw the Façade . I always thought a great leader would at least listen. Most of them pretend to work. I saw another manager yell at a associate about how they should be driving biz and pushing sales. And I thought. Well what are you doing to push any type of sales ? It’s all a show. That manager is also gone. I could do the job of 3 managers being that there is this unwritten code of let’s see how much I can dodge today attitude. ( giving overrides over phones) won’t even come talk to a customer. There is no standard!

To the shoes associate who tried to have a discussion with the manager about being proactive and address deficiencies, way to go. Unfortunately, your manager was just non-collaborative and should not have been a manager. Just the thought of telling you "they didn't need your input ". Obviously they didn't know what they were doing because they created a disaster. What about team work?
Some of these people get jobs because of many dark reasons. Organizations or companys are run by people who can be disastrous. They then hide behind the names of these companies, but it take the courage of people like you to call them out. When it goes public everyone will feel more empowered.

I told my manager we need this and that to be done before Xmas in women shoes. I said this is a mess that needs to be addressed and she turned to me to say “ we don’t need your input we know how to run this dept “ needless to say. She’s no longer with the company and xmas was a disaster. If you are a leader. Listen to your troops who are in the trenches getting shot at everyday while you sit in Executive office pretending to work . I also think associates should rule the hen. And get rid of sales “ manager”

I couldn’t agree more! My store manager has no idea what is going on under her, or what she’s doing. How she even got her position, no one knows. But until things change at that level up his company is doomed. Those in control have no idea what’s going on and how what they do affects us on the selling floor they should all be forced to work on the floor for a month and see how quickly their game plan changes
