Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

What’s been the latest news

So have the 3,000 cuts started or are they still trying to figure out which department or departments get the heaviest part of the cuts? We know that te&y are having issues with boards being exhausted, and mechanical isn’t able to keep locomotives working due to not being able to maintain them, any other issues from other departments that are happening and being overlooked. Let’s get this page back to what it’s needed for sharing information either true or false (hopefully leaning on the truth side) and stop with this petty spelling and grammar sideshow currently going on.

If we going to compare these hours to flat rate hours which is commission work then we as a union need to push for flat rate and get rid of this hourly rate and go straight commission. You either work hour for hour or the unions need to push those that are not doing that out PERIOD

It's like nobody has ever worked flat rate before. ILP is the same thing. You bill for every thing you can. If other shops can't figure this out it's their problem. We didnt make the system, we just know how to make it work for us.

The mechanical department as a whole as far as ILP is concerned signs off hours of work that’s impossible to complete. That has been an issue since day one, how can you credit someone 8 hours of work when they clock in and then add more time from whatever they sign off during their shift. That fact has been brought up to managers and falls on deaf ears just sign off what you work and move to the next thing seems to be the go to answer.

A lot of MOW cuts coming, really only going to have one section work whole district.

North Platte fudges the numbers big time. Once Givens gets ahold of this there will be alot of layoffs there. That mechanical department signs of 20 plus hours on a single person. That is total bogus there.

Yea I saw and read the corporate report. But actually getting commentary from those actually going through it first hand, from the boots on the ground perspective is just in my opinion a better picture than that given by someone sitting behind a desk. Reality as we all know can be made to look one way when in actuality it’s the total opposite we are witnessing that first hand every day we go into work our respective shifts, corporate says all is well but reality is it’s far from it lack of workers, parts to fix things broken on locomotives, the list goes on and on.

Car Department in KC is already low enough. They just expect employees to work OT to cover the other jobs they furloughed.

This was actually discussed on the latest earnings call, and a link to the transcript was posted on this very site.
