Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Computer Monitoring

Just curious, does anyone know if management can monitor your computer in real time? Real time monitoring as in actually watching your computer screen while you work without your knowledge. If so, what are some clues or what exactly can you look for to know when they are doing it? A certain program running or anything?

I know for a fact there is call recording and screen recording on some computers. So yes they can record and it doesn't matter if there is PHI. If a supervisor wants to go back and check they can see it or watch it live.

It was nice to know that the US corporation hired team members they don’t trust. Says a lot. Doesn’t? Keep working hard.

The new employee app "Sparq." should also be avoided for personal devices. The amount of access/permissions it requires is inappropriate and another route I'm sure for management to monitor employees.
The app's privacy policy includes the following:

This mobile application collects the following information:
Information that Identifies You

  • Information you provide which may include name, email address, user credentials, or phone number
  • Location data such as GPS, WiFi, or carrier network location
  • User files stored on your device, e.g., calendar, pictures, and video

What You Do on Your Device

  • Bluetooth
  • Phone dialer
  • Patterns of app usage

Device or System Data

  • Mobile Device Identifier, e.g., UDID, Android ID
  • Technical information about your device and system and application software, e.g., type of phone, operating System (OS), and IP address
  • Network state, e.g., WiFi or quality of connection

I'm talking as a Supervisor...it all depends on the software you have installed on your computer. If you use Jabber to make calls I don't think its recorded, but I'm sure IT can pull a dial/call report. If you use NICE your calls are being recorded, and live monitoring is available. Your mgr can listen to your live call in real time. If your system has DAA then they are recording your idle and screen activity. That would be your Jabber conversations along with the websites your viewing. Every department uses different software because there is a cost associated with each program. My previous dept didn't have those programs, but they were considering it. My current program has some monitoring services. Not everyone has the same experience, because we work in different dept/structures doing different roles. I would keep in mind everyone is being monitored one way or the other. If you dont want to be caught doing something they may use against you...well you know what to do in the future.

Yes, they can view your activity in many ways. They can get a report from IRM of what sites you visit and there are tools on your workstation that can record and/or broadcast your activity to another (Server for recording or manager). The tools to do all of this have been present for some time.

Initially they were present to catch id–ts stealing information, then they morphed to termination reasons in some areas.

Basically, do ALL your external job browsing and casual surfing on your phone data plan (not on UHC/Optum WiFi). If you use your work PC for personal things, NOTHING is private. Tether your personal laptop or tablet to your cell and do your personal stuff that way if you like a larger screen. Do not use that UHC/Optum owned and managed asset.

Yes, I am purposely calling anyone who is taking information from the company an id–t. This is on purpose and that is what you are if anyone does that. You will get caught.

@1dny+13lLD3vA Phone folks have voice in screen in Qfiniti, so yes, mgmt and quality can see their desktops at any time. Most other areas would probably require a reason and an IT request. I don't believe BackOffice has screen viewing. I'm sure they have the ability to do it with some programs, but because it requires a ton of bandwidth/resources, I'd also assume mgmt would need a good reason to request it.

Yes they can and you’ll have no clue. I used to watch two young ladies talk c-ap about me on qfiniti real time (a couple of years back)

I've seen the Excel report that records everything you do on your computer, which program and how much time is spent on the QA department. My old job, Managers where able to view live video of people's work screens and hear microphone conversations.

This Back Office software does exist and is being used to monitor productivity for frontline team members in many segments of the organization. My team doesn’t use it but I’ve seen the reporting exports.

I’m not sure about live observation of your screen but they can track your active vs. idle time and get a list of what applications you’re using during those times.

Doubt they can... They don't know when you have PHI, etc on your screen, and they should not be seeing that data without a need to see that data. Think about when you call the help desk, they always ask you to minimize all private information before they get on your computer to help you with an issue. I'd imagine no one can legally look at your computer remotely without your knowledge, as they would they have the ability to see any private data you may be working on, and would be against privacy policies...

They'd be better off asking you to prove what you worked on for the day if they suspect any lacking effort...

I'm a director and been there 12 years. This has never been evident and there has never been a report provided to me. It sorta sounds a little overboard to worry about to me

It’s Posts like @ ogq+13lLD3vA , just that type of mean, b–chy personality that pushed me to quit Optum!!! Imagine working with 10-15 b–ches like that every day AND your manager NEVER having your back!

My manager accidentally showed me a couple days of my co-worker. How this guy hasn’t been laid off only means he has dirt on the manager. Most of his day was idle time!!! He wasn’t even trying to hide it.

Wow..calm down! Obviously you are one of those crazy micro-managers or HR hypocrites. I have the right to know how and when I’m being monitored as well as all other employees. Maybe spend more time working on your management skills instead of monitoring employees would be a better approach to increasing productivity.

Real time, NICE, DAA I believe (they might have others now) are the programs that are recording everything. Yes, supervisors can see your IM’s if necessary. They can see if you’re on amazon or other sites. Supervisors don’t have the time to go and actually look, but if you give a reason (low prod, too much IM time) they will look.

Yes. You should have access to your own personal report. This isn’t a secret.

Go out, buy an analog clock with a second hand. Set it on your desk. Put your mouse on the clock.

Yes, IEC or back office records everything and was downloaded on everyone's computer who was in a Production environment, I.e. data mining. It emails a report daily to your manager on what sites you were on all day, for how long, how long your computer was locked, and how long your mouse sat idle not moving.

Yes they can. I believe they use the “NICE Back Office” software to do so. It is not installed on my work computer but others have reported it, or something similar, was on theirs.

Just don’t do anything out of the ordinary and you will be fine.
